Post-Season 2013 - Section V lacrosse added another team (Avon), but lost one (ER) to its roster which remains at thirty-seven teams with 1,145 players.

Penfield, seeded fourth in the tournament won the Class A tournament with a 9-6 win over Thomas. In Class B, top seeded Canandaigua won their tournament with an 11-10 win over Victor. Penn Yan won their eighteenth section title with a 6-1 victory over Geneva.

The first games this year were played on March 21st and the last regular season game was played on May 17th. The 314 games played set up the league championships. In Monroe County it was Fairport (MC1), Irondequoit, Canandaigua and Victor (MC2) tied and Hilton (MC3) were champions. Geneva took the FL title and Aquinas won the GRALL title.

At the end of the year, the Section Five Head Coaches met to select post-season awards. After selecting ten All Americans, three of them with excellent academic credentials were selected as Academic All-Americans. They were Luc Bailey (McQuaid Jesuit), James Burdette (Penn Yan) and Sean Cunningham (Geneva).

The seven remaining All-American were Ben Brooks (Irondequoit), Charlie Cummins (Penfield), Albie DiPasquale (Pittsford), Matt Kaser (Spencerport), Ben Reeves (junior, Pal-Mac), Jay Vakiener (Fairport) and Kevin Vaughn (Fairport).

The All Section lists were announced and the ten All-Americans were joined by eight others on the first team and twenty-two others were selected to the second team. "It's always difficult to choose from so many talented players," said Section Five Chairman, Mike Simon.

The Monroe County Players of the Year were Charlie Cummins, Ben Brooks, Casey Kopp and, for the second time in a row, Matt Kaser.

Junior attackman, Ben Reeves, for the second year in a row, selected as Finger Lakes Player of the Year. The Midfielder of the Year was, again, Sean Cunningham from Geneva and the Defenseman of the Year was Geneva's Dan Hickey.

Senior defenseman, Luc Bailey from McQuaid Jesuit was selected as GRALL Player of the Year. The GRALL coaches gave the Sportsmanship award to Bath-Haverling.

Rush-Henrietta (Class A), Canandaigua Academy (Class B) and Penn Yan Academy (Class C) were awarded the Steve Morgan Sportsmanship Awards by the Genesee Valley Lacrosse Officials Association.

The USLacrosse Coach if the Year was Geneva's LJ Russell. The Assistant Coach of the Year was Geneva Assistant Brian Travis and the Man of the Year was posthumously awarded to Bruce Teague Sr. who was a long-time official, coach and player.

After the regular season, there are several championship opportunities for teams that qualify. Penfield (Class A), Canandaigua (Class B) and Penn Yan (Class C) were the Sectional Champions in 2013.

All Tournament teams were selected for each Class. The MVPs for A, B and C were Mitch Standera (Penfield), Mitchell Schaefer (Canandaigua) and Ryan Maciejewski (Penn Yan).

The SportsFive Players of the Year were Albie DiPasquale (Pittsford) in offense and Charlie Cummins (Penfield) in defense. The Sportsman of the Year was Kasey Kopp (Brighton).

It was also announced on Championship Day that long-time official, Frank Mangione, was retiring for active officiating. He was assigned to Geneva-Penn Yan game.

The Western Regionals of the NYS tournament were hosted by Section Five at St. John Fisher College. Penfield beat Orchard Park in overtime (11-10), Canandaigua lost to Hamburg (12-3) and Penn Yan defeated Silver Creek (11-7). In the semi finals, also held at Fisher, Penfield lost to West Genesee (11-6). Hamburg lost to Jamesville-DeWitt of Section III (18-5). Penn Yan lost to Cazenovia (Section III) in a close 8-7 contest that went right to the wire.

Section Five hosted the New York State Championships at St. John Fisher College on Saturday, June 8th. Ward Melville of Section 11 won the class A title with a 16-4 win over West Genesee (Section 3). Garden City (Section 8) won the Class B title with their 13-8 win over Jamesville-DeWitt. It was their second Championship in a row. In Class C, Cazenovia defeated Bronxville (Section 1) 13-11.
