June 17, 2013 - The final game of the year was celebrated by some of the best of the seniors in the Section who participated in the annual Herb Fitch All Star Game, sponsored by the Rochester Chapter of USLacrosse. The game was held at the Victor Campus after the Girls' All Star game and saw players divided between the "Red Team" and the "Blue Team". The "everybody plays- just for fun" game was won by the Blue team, coached by Jim DeWald (Rush-Henrietta), John McGurk (Webster Schroeder) and Mike Pane (Gananda) with a score of 9-6.
The leader in scoring for the Blue team was Penfield's Andrew Schoeneck (1g-2a). Among the players scoring were Jay Vakiener (Fairport), Kevin Vaughn (Fairport), John Hill (Thomas), Dante Giordano (Hilton), Sean Cunningham (Geneva) and Nick Binnert (R-H) who each scored one goal for the Blue Team. Ryan Maciejewski (Penn Yan) added an assist.
For the Red Team, Alex Ballatori (Brighton) led the scoring with two assists. Among the players scoring one goal each were Nick Capone (Arc/Oly), Dan LaCrosse (Canandaigua), Connor Flaherty (HF-L), Tim Wright (Waterloo), Ben Brooks (Irondequoit) and Derek Bishopp (Livonia). Josh Wester (Livonia) and Billy Lombardi (Aquinas) each had one assist for the Red Team, coached by Joe Hill (Pal-Mac), Tyrone Thomas (Waterloo) and Ian Buckley (Bloomfield-Honeoye).
Jay Vakiener was named the Blue Team Offensive Player of the Game and Geneva goalie Derek Grillone was named the Blue Team Defensive Player of the Game. Dan Lacrosse was named the Red Team Offensive Player of the Game and Greece Lightning (Arc/Oly) defenseman Zac Sapor was named the Defensive Player of the Game.
The game is named in honor of 1938 Geneva High School graduate, Herb Fitch, who was a high school and college official for over twenty years. The National Lacrosse Hall of Fame inductee is also in the Geneva and Hobart College Halls of Fame.
