The last three games of the 2013 season were played today at St. John Fisher College and there were three different outcomes. One was close. One was sort of close and one went to running time. The the opener, Garden City beat Jamesville-DeWitt, 13-8 to repeat as NYS Champions. It was the sixth Championship for the Trojans. In the next game, the Cazenovia won the Class C Championship after coming from behind to defeat Bronxville 13-11. It was the second time the Lakers brought home the trophy. In the last game, Ward Melville completed their magical undefeated season with a surprising, running time, 16-4 defeat over West Genesee. It was the 8th win for the Patriots who last won in 2000.

Garden City 13 - JD 8

In the cage, Joe Shapiro finished with 5s/13ga The book for Garden City: Scoring for Garden City were Cody George (5g-1a), Justin Guterding (2g-3a), Jack Worstell (2g-2a), Dale Stasco (2g), Lucas Clay (1g), Ed Blatz (1g), Jack Metzler (1a). In the cage, Dan Dolan finished with 8s/8ga (50%).

 --  Section Eight Champion, Garden City scored six unanswered goal to start the third quarter and secure their 13-8 win over Section Three Champion Jamesville-DeWitt. Garden City was led by the game's two MVPs. Offensive MVP, Cody George finished with 5g-1a for the Trojans. Defensive MVP James Sullivan finished 18/25 at the face off draw. He also finished with a team leading 12 ground balls, all of which came off of face-off draws.

J-D started off the scoring with the first two goals of the game. Jordan Evans fed Ryan Durkin from behind the cage for the opening goal with 6:17 remaining in the first quarter. Thirty-two seconds later they scored again on a drive at the cage by midfielder Mike Perkins. The first quarter ended with the Red Rams leading 2-0.

Garden City came back in the second quarter and scored the first three goals. Garden City didn't score until 13:30 into the contest. Dale Stasco scored the first of his two goals on a sweep across the top of the restraining line. Five minutes later the Trojans tied the game for the first time. Justin Guterding scored on a straight drive at the cage. The first lead change of the game came with 2:09 remaining in the opening half. George scored the first of his goals with a feed from behind the cage from Jack Worstell. Worstell finished with 2g-2a for the Trojans. J-D scored the final goal of the quarter with a feed from Griffin Feiner to Evans and the game was tied going into the half.

The third quarter made the difference for Garden City. The Trojans scored eight goals in the quarter, including the first six. With face-off wins from Sullivan, the Trojans kept possession for the first seven minutes of the quarter and never gave the Red Rams a shot in the offense area. Garden City scored two goals early in the quarter with Worstell and George scoring unassisted goals. With 5:59 remaining, Guterding fed Worstell on the crease for a Trojan goal. They scored four goals in the next two minutes including goals from George, Lucas Clay and Ed Blatz with a long stick. The remaining time in the contest was back forth scoring.

J-D outscored the Trojans 3-2 in the final quarter but it was not enough. In the cage for Garden City, Dan Dolan finished with eight saves (50%). Joining Sullivan with ground ball production were Tim McDonagh (4), Dolan (3), Guterding (3) and Jack Metzler (3). For J-D, Joe Shapiro finished with five saves between the pipes. Leading in ground balls for the Red Rams were Ryan McKee with four ground balls. Griffin Feiner (3) and Jeff Edwards (3) also contributed to the ground ball count.

Cazenovia 13 - Bronxville 11

The book for Cazenovia: Scoring for Cazenovia were Connor Cannizzaro (4g-3a), Ryan Cook (4g-2a), PJ Brown (3g-1a) and Kyle Brown (2g). In the cage for Cazenovia, Trevor Cross finished with 9s/11ga. The book for Bronxville: Scoring for Bronxville were Jack Glass (3g-3a), Henry Grass (3g), Brewster Warble (3g), Will Duncan (2a), Matt Behrens (1g), Liam Lynch (1g) and Reilly Walsh (1a). In the cage for Bronxville, Eric Pass finished with 16s/13ga (55%).

 --  Section Three Champion Cazenovia scored five of the last six goals to defeat Section One Champion Bronxville 13-11. The Lakers trailed 5-1 after the first quarter and spent the next three quarters fighting back to within striking distance. The Lakers brought the game within a single goal in the third quarter but did not tie the game until the opening goal of the fourth quarter. The Lakers scored three more to take a 13-10 lead with 4:55 remaining. They ran out the remainder of the game only allowing Bronxville a single goal with 2:06 remaining in the game. Leading the Lakers were offensive MVP, Connor Cannizzaro with 4g-3a and defensive MVP, Joe Colligan with two ground balls and two timely takes in the final quarter.

Cazenovia scored the opening goal with PJ Brown assisting Kyle Brown 3:44 into the contest. It was the only goal scored by the Lakers in the first 13 minutes of play. Bronxville scored the next five goals to take a dominating lead after the first quarter. Bronxville's Henry Glass scored two of the opening goals with Jack Glass, Brewster Warble and Liam Lynch each adding a single goal. It was interesting that the first two goals of the game were scored by brothers assisting brothers.

The Lakers scored four goals in each of the remaining quarters and held Bronxville to 3,2 and 1 goals respectively. Ryan Cook scored the first of his 4g-2a unassisted on a drive from behind the cage just 0:44 into the quarter. Matt Behrens scored his lone goal of the game for the Broncos with an outside shot less than a minute later to keep Bronxville ahead by four goals. Cazenovia scored two quick fast break goals to bring the game within two goals. Brown scored the first and 0:51 later Cannizzaro scored his first goal. Glass came back and scored again (unassisted) at 2:52 to keep the Bronco's lead. Forty seconds later Will Duncan fed Warble for his second goal. The final goal of the quarter was scored by Cazenovia. Cannizzaro fed Cook to bring the game within three (8-5).

The Lakers kept up the pressure in the third quarter. They scored the opening goal just 0:48 into the quarter on an unassisted extra-man goal by Cook. Cannizzaro scored on a drive from the left side of the cage to bring the game back within a single goal for the first time since the opening quarter. The Bronco's came back and scored 0:33 later on an unassisted extra-man goal from Warble. The teams continued to trade goals in rapid succession. Cook scored with a full field fast break after a called back goal against Bronxville. Less than one minute later Glass fed the ball to Grass from behind the cage for the Bronco's. On the ensuing face-off, Cannizzaro picked up the loose ball at the restraining line and dumped it back to Cook who was alone on the crease. By the end of the quarter, Cazenovia only trailed by a single goal (10-9).

In the final quarter, Cazenovia scored the first four goals to secure their win. Cannizzaro scored two with Brown and Cook adding one each. The lone Bronxville goal was scored by Glass after the release of a Bronxville penalty with 2:06 remaining in the game. In the cage for Bronxville, Eric Pass finished with 16 saves (55%). Midfielder Liam Lynch finished with a team leading five ground balls. Warble (4), Glass (3) and Grass (3) also contributed to the count. For Cazenovia, Trevor Cross finished with nine saves. Attackman Ryan Cook led his team in ground balls with nine. Henry Mann and Cannizzaro finished with eight ground balls each. Mann finished 11/19 (58%) at the face off draw.

Ward Melville 16 - West Genesee 4

The book for West Genesee: Scoring for West Genesee were Ted Glesener (2g), Brady Hoose (2a), Zach Anderson (1g-1a) and Ryan St. Croix (1g). In the cage, Matt Koziol recorded 11s/16ga for the Wildcats. The book for Ward Melville: Scoring for Ward Melville were Brendan Hegarty (4g-1a), Jake Kepes (3g-2a), Christian Mazzone (2g-3a), Jack Bruckner (2g-1a), Daniel Bucaro (2g), Daniel Decker (2g), Connor McAvoy (1g) and Adam Lapitino (1a). In the cage, David Gibbs played nine minutes and recorded 1s/1ga (50%) and Daniel Nemirov recorded 1s/3ga.

 --  Section Eleven Champion Ward Melville scored the first goal of the game and never trailed in their 16-4 win over Section Three Champion West Genesee. The Patriots scored six goals in the first quarter and held the Wildcats to only two. The Patriots added five more in the second quarter and held West Genesee scoreless. Ward Melville dominated the game and took the game into running time in third quarter.

Leading in scoring for Ward Melville was Offensive MVP, Brendan Hegarty (4g-1a). Defensive MVP, Daniel Decker finished with 2g. He also finished with seven ground balls and four takes. Leading the ground ball count for the Patriots was face-off midfielder Jack Bruckner. He finished with 10 ground balls and was 10/13 (77%) at the draw. Along with Bruckner and Decker were Adam Lapitino, Christian Mazzone and Robert Mendez who each added two ground balls. In the cage for Ward Melville, David Gibbs played the final three minutes and recorded one save. Daniel Nemirov played the remainder of the game and recorded one save.

Leading the ground ball count for West Genesee were Collin Kobuszewski, Nick Mellen and Mark Niechial with two ground balls each. The Wildcats only took 18 shots (6 on cage) in the entire game. Ryan St. Croix (8) and Ted Glesener (6) took nearly all the shots for West Genesee. In the cage, Matt Koziol finished with 11 recorded saves.
