June 20, 2005 - At the end of
regular season Penfield dodged the bullet
with a one goal win at Fairport and completed their regular
season undefeated at 16-0. Canandaigua finished
at 16-1 with their only loss to Baldwinsville. Brighton
finished at 14-2 with both losses to HF-L
who ended their season at 15-1 with their single loss to Schroeder.
There was plenty of excitement in the Section Five Tournament
as Canandaigua beat Penfield 12-10 in their
closest game of the Class A Tournament. Because the number
of Class B teams was under the number
required for their own tournament, the Class B teams were
combined with the Class C teams for sectionals. The combined
B/C Tournament featured an NCAA
type bracket with the B-sized teams on one side and the
C-sized teams on the other. HF-L, the best
of the B's played Penn Yan, the best of the
C's for the B/C Sectional Trophy. The Mustangs won 5-2 although
both teams joined Canandaigua in the State Tournament.
In the New York State Tournament,
Canandaigua lost in a 14-10 battle with Orchard
Park (Section 6) in the Western Regionals. HF-L
won their Western Regional game with a 6-5 victory over Amherst
(Section 6) but were defeated by Jamesville-DeWitt (Section
3) by 10-6 in the Semi final game. Penn Yan defeated Section
10 opponent, Canton, 12-8 to win the Western Regional title
and fell to Lafayette (Section 3) in the Semi Final game (13-7).
