May 20, 2012 - The Head Coaches of Section Five met on Sunday afternoon to listen to the presentations of twenty-three players who had been nominated for All-America team honors. The awards, sponsored by US Lacrosse, identify some of the best players from each area of the country. In previous years, the national awards were selected by various leagues. This year, for the third year, the Head Coaches of thirty-seven teams came together to pick the players to receive the various awards. Full Report |

May 13, 2013 - Avon picked up another GRALL win with their 7-5 victory over Bishop Kearney. Pal-Mac won a 13-2 win over Midlakes. Medina of Section 6 beat Newark and Penn Yan defeated Bath. Full Report |

May 12, 2013 - Section Five Lacrosse lost a great supporter and friend today with the passing of life-long lacrosse enthusiast, Bruce R. Teague, Senior. Bruce played lacrosse at Geneva High School, graduating in 1967 and was named to the 1st team All-Upstate lacrosse team in his senior year. He was a team captain in that year and received Geneva's Covert Award. Full Report |

May 11, 2013 - With less than one week left in the regular season there were a dozen games played on Saturday. Marcus Whitman and Rush-Henrietta both won by one goal. Brighton defeated the Greece Lightning, 9-5. Hilton gave Pittsford a scare for a while but the Panthers won 13-9 at the Pittsford Lacrosse Festival. Other winners on Saturday were Wayne, Victor, Waterloo, McQuaid Jesuit, Pal-Mac, Spencerport and Livonia, HF-L. Full Report |

May 10, 2013 - Aquinas was scheduled to play St. Joe's tonight, but the game was cancelled due to lightning storms in the area. The Hamburg at Penn Yan game was cancelled as well. That game will not be made up. Two games were, however, played. Avon went right to work and took a 6-3 first quarter to a 13-5 over visiting Batavia. The Irondequoit defense and goalie Alex Shoemaker (15s/3ga=83%) held Pal-Mac to three goals as they defeated visiting Pal-Mac 7-3. Full Report |

This is a big year for Section Five Lacrosse as, after our own exciting tournament, we will be welcoming some of the best teams in the state when we host the NYS Boys Lacrosse Tournaments. St. John Fisher College, which will host our Sectional Championships, will also be the venue for the NYS quarterfinals and semifinals as well as the Championship games. Back in February of 2007, Coach Wilson posted a blog story called "Doing The Scholarship Math". The article pointed out the somewhat often misconception that scholarships in lacrosse were easy to find and get. In fact, the story demonstrated that a player would need to be among the top two percent of players to receive, in most cases, a partial scholarship. Full Report |

Post-Season 2012 - Section V lacrosse added another team (Wayne) to its roster which now totals thirty-seven teams and 1,123 players. Full Report |
New York Tournament History Available
The first New York State Lacrosse Tournament was held in 1977 with Elmont (Section 8) the first champion. There were only six teams entered in the '77 tournament. Section Five first entered the tournament in 1978 with Rush Henrietta losing to Farmingdale 7-4 in the semi final round.
SportsFive has put together brackets for all the New York State Tournaments from 1977 to 2005 and has have updated the summary information which is available from the Tournament page.
