Thursday: NYS Semi finals
 -  Section Three made it a clean sweep, winning all three classes in the semi finals at Aquinas on Thursday. West Genesee won a 17-2 victory over Orchard Park of Section Six in Class A, Jamesville DeWitt was the 10-6 winner over HF-L in Class B and Lafayette was the 13-7 winner over Penn Yan in Class C.
  
Down state it was Niskayuna of Section Two an 11-6 winner over West Islip (Section 11) in Class A, Huntington of Section Eleven was the 14-2 winner over John Jay of Section One in Class B and Manhasset of Section Eight the 18-5 winner over Rye of Section One in Class C.
  
 The Class A teams played first at Aquinas and with a NYSPHSAA directed 3:30 start, the fans were primarily real diehards and family members, but this like the other games on Thursday were "Final Four" games and would lead to Championship Saturday at Cornell. The Syracuse based Section Three teams were prepared and had the skill to take a clean sweep of the "Upstate" bracket, starting with West Genesee who easily defeated Orchard Park of Section Six by a scored of 17-2.
  
After a very short period of testing each other, the Wildcats went to work, scoring fifteen goals in a row while playing such tight defense that the Quakers were held to only four shots in the second half.
  
Senior midfielder Brian Griffin was first to score on a feed from senior attackman Jeff Ryan at 9:39. Orchard Park returned with an unassisted goal at 7:33 by Matt Ciambella to tie the game at one. The tie lasted 1:13 before Genny started their scoring run with a goal by Tim Spillett (from David Osier). Although OP finished the quarter with two shots on cage, Wildcat senior goalie Dan McKeon made both saves and added two more before turning the cage over to junior Shane McConnell with about three minutes left in the game. The Wildcats finished the quarter with a goal by Spillett (from Osier) at 4:14 and a man up goal from Osier (assisted by Ryan) at 3:29 and took a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.
  
The Wildcat defense limited the Quakers to five shots in the second quarter, with McKeon making saves against Brian Lalley and Jake Eustice, while the Genny offense rolled up seven goals of their own including three more by Spillett, two from Ryan, and single goals by Tim Griffin and Kevin Courtney. West Genesee was ahead at the halftime break 11-1.
  
While the Wildcat defense tighten in the third and allowed no shots from the Quakers, OP goalie Jordan Ellis made 4 saves while allowing three goals from Genny in the third quarter. Mark Cometti and Kevin Joy added one goal each and Ryan scored again in man up to end the third quarter with Genny up 14-1.
  
Roby Farchione scored first in the last quarter for West Genesee with an assist from Ryan at 10:06 and P.J. Motondo scored an unassisted goal before OP's Brian Lalley scored his unassisted goal at 7:12. That would be the last goal of the season for the Quakers. Motondo scored the last goal of the game at 2:56 for the Wildcats.
  
Scoring for West Genesee were Spillett (5g-1a), Ryan (3g-3a), Osier (2g-3a), Cometti (1g-2a) and Motondo (2g). Scoring single goals were Courtney, Griffin, Joy and Farchione while senior middie Andrew Vecchio and freshman attackman Ryan Barber added one assist each. McKeon recorded four saves for the Wildcats (21-0) who will face Niskayuna of Section Two on Saturday at 11:00 am at Cornell University.
  
Finishing for Orchard Park (20-2), were Lalley (1g) and Ciambella (1g). Jordan Ellis finished with nine saves.
   
 Honeoye Falls-Lima, in their second year as a varsity team, found themselves in the final four and playing against an experienced team from Jamesville DeWitt who, in the end won their trip to Cornell with a 10-6 victory.
  
HF-L started out with the first goal, at 10:13, by David Uzialko from Mike Cintineo. Cintineo scored an unassisted man up goal at 8:49 but the Red Rams returned with two for the tie as sophomore middie Mike Entra scored on a pass from James Marshal and senior middie Jim Fiacco scored an unassisted goal for JD. John Cintineo ended the quarter with an unassisted goal at 0:10 giving the Cougars a 3-2 advantage going into the second quarter.
  
HF-L extended their lead to two when Mike Cintineo scored an unassisted goal at 10:32, but the Red Rams came back with the next four to take a 6-4 lead into the halftime break. Senior attackman Austin Deyo scored at 9:59. Fiacco scored an unassisted goal at 3:41 while Deyo scored two more; the first in man up at 2:23 and the second on a pass from Jim Oaster at 2:07.
  
After the break, Joe Poplin scored on a feed from Scott Ladenheim at 11:09 and Keith Vetter added an unassisted goal nineteen seconds later. Uzialko scored again at 4:04 and senior defenseman Ryan Mulcahey scored an unassisted fast break clearing goal with 0:27 in the quarter. It would be the last goal of the 18-3 season for the Cougars. The Red Rams led at the end of the third quarter, 8-6.
  
JD added two more goals in the last quarter including one from Oaster (assisted by Ladenheim) and one from Vetter (from Fiacco).
  
Scoring for JD were Vetter (3g), Deyo (3g), Fiacco (2g-1a), Oaster (1g-1a) and Entra (1g). Ladenheim added 2a and Marshal added 1g for the Red Rams (20-2). They will face Huntington of Section 11 who beat John Jay of Section 1 14-2 at Hofstra yesterday. The game, at Cornell, will be played at 1:30 on Saturday.
  
Scoring for HF-L were Mike Cintineo (2g-2a), Uzialko (2g) and Mulcahey (1g). Senior goalie Mike Brisbane had 13 saves for the Cougars. Cintineo ended the year with 90 goals for the Cougars.

After the game, Head Coach Rick Pound challenged his team to remember the work that went into their noteworthy season and encouraged them to make use of the lessons in future lives. "Don't ever forget what you have done, what we have done, together," he said in as the team huddled closely for the final time in the 2005 season that ended with a 18-3 record.
  
 The 8:00 game featured Penn Yan and Lafayette in the Class C semi final for the third time in three years. The Lancers continued their undefeated 23-0 season with a 13-7 win that earned them a trip to Cornell and the State Championship game against Manhasset (Section 8) who beat Rye (Section 1) in an 18-5 game at Hofstra University on Thursday night.

The Lancers scored their first goal at 4:47 as junior middie Jerome Thompson scored an unassisted goal. Senior attackman Lee Nanticoke scored at 10:23 and Tyler Hill scored (unassisted) at 9:58 to give Lafayette a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  
The Lancers extended their lead to four with a goal just 0:12 into the second quarter when Josh Groth scored (unassisted). Penn Yan then scored their first goal of the game when junior middie Steven Carlson scored on a feed from Jon Van Houten in man up at 5:55. The Mustangs scored again in man up at 4:53 when Dan Mesler scored on a feed from Carlson. Junior middie Kevin Wilkerson added a goal at 4:29 after receiving a feed from Jeremy Thompson for the Lancers who returned again at 3:42 when Groth scored on a drive from the back of the cage. The half ended with Lafayette up 6-2.
  
Penn Yan made a valiant effort in the third quarter and traded goals with the Lancers, each scoring three. Sophomore middie Dan Wolfe scored first for Penn Yan on a feed from Mesler at 10:50. Lafayette returned with a goal at 9:18. Mesler scored in man up on a feed from Van Houten at 8:25 and the Lancers countered with a goal by Tyler Gale (assisted by Tyler Hill) at 6:25. Penn Yan saw another Mesler from Van Houten man up goal at 4:47 but Lafayette scored the last goal of the quarter at 1:00 when Nanticoke scored with an assist from Hill giving the Lancers a 9-5 lead.
  
In an effort to get back on the scorebook, the Mustangs took many shots, but most were off the cage. The Lancers, however put six shots on RJ Wickham's goal, scoring four of six as Gale, Groth, Wilkerson and Nanticoke each added one goal and Nanticoke and Gales each added one assist. Michael Manley scored a man up goal for Penn Yan at 2:02 and Carlson ended the season with an unassisted goal at 0:39 for the Mustangs (17-7).
  
Scoring for Lafayette were Jerome Thompson (3g), Nanticoke (2g-1a), Hill (1g-1a), Groth (3g), Jeremy Thompson (2a), Gale (2g-2a), #48 (1g). Sophomore goalie Pat Dwyer made 8 saves. Jeremy Thompson won 10 of 12 face offs for the Lancers who won a total of 16 of 24.
  
Scoring for Penn Yan were Carlson (2g-1a), Mesler (3g-1a) and Van Houten (4a) while Wolfe and Manley each added one goal. RJ Wickham had 8 saves for the Mustangs.
  
The Lancers will play Manhasset for the NYS Championship at Cornell at 4:00 on Saturday.
