Thomas 12 - Fairport 11   OT

special --  The third game of the night was the closest with Webster Thomas defeating Fairport in overtime 12-11. Brad Hutton scored his only goal of the night with 2:00 remaining in the first overtime with an assist from JT Hauck. Class A thom-fptAll-Tournament MVP honors went to Kenny Tomeno who finished the Championship game with 4 goals.

Fairport's starting goalie for the majority of the year Kris Sterzin started the game for the Red Raiders. Sterzin, who had not played in the one goal victory over Webster Schroeder due to injury, had difficulty in the opening quarter. He played the first five minutes of the game and finished with one save and five goals against. Kyle Hall came into the game with 6:44 remaining in the first quarter and finished out the game with 6 saves and 7 goals against.

Thomas scored the first five goals of the contest without an answer from the Red Raiders. In additional to difficulties on the defensive side of the field, the Red Raider offense had difficulty coming together. Brendan Saylor finished the game with 3g-1a, however, his three goals were the first Fairport goal and the last two goals. Goalie James O'Neil and defenseman Andrew Glagolev, both who were named to the All-Tournament team, did a good job neutralizing the All-American's ability to score. O'Neil finished the game with 14 saves (56%) for the Titans.

Thomas saw scoring from four different athletes in the opening volley; Billy Gurowski, Kyle LaVallee (2), Kyle Rothfuss and Kenny Tomeno. Of the 11 shots that Fairport had in the first quarter, only five were on cage, with only one resulting in a goal. The Titans led 5-1 after the first quarter and the Red Raiders had to use the remaining quarter to play catch-up.

Fairport won each of the remaining three quarters (winning the thom-fptsecond and third by one goal and the fourth by two goals). Both teams did exceedingly well on man-up with each team only dropping one opportunity (Fairport 3/4, Thomas 2/3). Fairport, Mike Lehmann did not have his normal perfect game at the face-off, however he still finished with 73% of his face-offs won, including five technical wins.

Until the fourth quarter, the scoring was back and forth. In the second the team alternated goals with Fairport scoring both first and last to gain one goal on Thomas. In the third, Fairport scored first to bring the game to within two goals (7-5). However, Tomeno and Rothfuss then both added unassisted goals to bring the Titan lead back to four goals. Fairport came back once more with two man-up goals from Chris Button and Aaron Jones (and assists from Saylor and Martin Manilla). Both his goals at 5:11 and 2:20 were scored in that way. With 2:20 the score was tied and both teams had opportunities to score before time expired. The final Fairport shot came from Jones, who hit the pipe.

After a conduct call on Fairport, the Titans had their shot for the win. After clearing the ball they had a shot on cage, however Kyle LaVallee's shot went wide and the game was sent into overtime.

In overtime, Lehmann won the face-off for Fairport with defensive short-stick David Foley picking up the ground ball from the wing. Foley joined Saylor and Manilla in being named to the All-Tournament team from Fairport. Saylor got two more shots in overtime with one hitting the cage and O'Neil making the save. The Titans took got control of the ball and called a timeout with 2:26 remaining. After clearing the ball they took it behind the up the left side of the field. JT Hauck and Brad Hutton hooked up for the goal with 2:00 remaining in the first overtime period.

Fairport finished the game with 20 more shots than the Titans (51-31), with Jones and Saylor combining for 31 shots between the two of them. Jones hit the cage 4 times and Saylor 8 times.
