Friday: Conclusion |
April 7, 2006 - There were two unfinished
games on Tuesday and they were concluded
today in two different ways. On Tuesday,
Rush-Henrietta was ahead 5-0 when the game
was suspended just before the half. When
the game was finished today, the Royal Comets
had won 15-3. The Webster Schroeder game
was not finished, but ended by agreement,
and the Warriors were declared the 10-3
winner.
Rush-Henrietta
improved their record to 3-0 with
their 15-3 win over Hilton as they finished
their game from Tuesday, when a snow storm
caused the game to be suspended.
Leading the way for the Royal Comets were:
sophomore attackman Nate Delone with 5g-1,
junior attackman Matt Moran with 3g-2a and
junior attackman Brian Hantzis who added
2g-3a. Also scoring for RH was junior middie
Justin Rose with 2g, senior middie Tony
Henriquez (1g) and senior middie Tim Barth
who scored his first goal of the season
while sophomore Bobby Pattridge scored his
first varsity goal.
Another solid team defensive effort was
turned in and junior goalies Matt McShea
and Andrew Widanka combined for 12 saves.
It
took the same length of time, but the Webster
Schroeder - Spencerport game, which
was also "snowed out" on Tuesday
was resolved today as well. When the game
was stopped about three minutes into the
third quarter, the Warriors were ahead 10-3.
After discussions between Head Coaches and
Athletic Directors it was decided not to
resume the game. There was at that point,
questions as to how the game would be counted
toward post season tournament seeding and
whether National Federation lacrosse rules
would allow the game to be counted.
Section Five Lacrosse Chairman, Mike Simon
was on a business trip during the week,
but upon his return and after consulting
with NFHS rules interpreters, determined
that the game would be considered completed
under Rule 3, Section 6 which says:
" If a game is interrupted
because of events beyond the control
of the responsible authorities, it shall
be continued from the point of interruption
unless there are conference, league,
state association rules to cover the
situation. [portion deleted.] By mutual
agreement of opposing coaches and approval
of the referee, any period may be shortened
or the game terminated."
Recognizing that there appear to be no
Section Five rules covering the situation,
Chairman Simon ruled that as the Head Coaches
and Referee agreed and the game will be
considered officially concluded with Schroeder
the winner, 10-3.
Schroeder's record improves to 3-0. The
game report is available here.
