November 22, 2011 - "Right when I got on the Binghamton campus, I got that feeling," says senior defenseman Chris Bechle, about his chowhice to go to Binghamton University. "This is where I want to spent the next four years of my life. It's the perfect fit for me."
His top three choices were Binghamton, Fairfield and Le Moyne. After listing academics (he plans to major in management and marketing) he suggested that it was just the right distance from home. "It's two and a half hours away, which is just perfect. . . Far enough, but also close enough," he said with a chuckle.
"I started to play lacrosse in fifth grade and I wanted to be an attackman. Derek DeJoe's father (Steve DeJoe) knew that I just wasn't an attackman. I couldn't catch or pass that well so he put be on the defense and the rest is history." The team-oriented senior defenseman now lists teamwork as a major skill. "My teammates and I are close enough so that we know when we need help and we know when we don't need help."
He and teammate, Brian Martin, who is also on his way to Binghamton plan to be roommates next fall. "I've known Brian since second grade and we've been great friends the whole time, so it's going to be a great experience."
As for his last year with Fairport, "I feel we have the best leadership we've had in a few years and I think we can get to our goal which is winning a Sectional Championship and hopefully getting to that State Championship in June." It sounds like the words of a future marketing man.
