There were three afternoon games in the Section on Friday. Geneva beat Mynderse 18-2. Pal-Mac was a 17-6 winner over Marcus Whitman and Newark beat visiting Waterloo 8-4.

  --    Newark held Waterloo scoreless in both the first and final quarters to secure their 8-4 win. The Reds tied both the second and third quarters with both teams adding two goals in each quarter. Both goalies recorded high saves between the pipes. For Newark, Dominic Camblin finished with 12 saves (75%). For the Indians, Josh Bailey finished with 10 saves (56%).

Newark scored the only goal of the first quarter with less than three minutes into play. Jack Timerson, who finished with three goals, scored an unassisted goal with 9:27 remaining in the opening quarter. Timerson, a senior leads his team in goals, assists and points so far this season with 18g-9a. The first quarter ended with Newark leading 1-0.

In the second quarter, Waterloo came back and scored the first two goals to take the lead. Senior attackman Cody Riegel scored his lone goal of the game with a drive off a clearing attempt. Newark's junior defenseman Josh Williams stepped up his play today in holding Riegel to only the single goal. Riegel, who leads his team with 57 points this season, has never been held to less than two points. For the season, Riegel has eight games with five points or more. Williams was impressive, often leading his team on the clear or knocking the ball to the ground.

Waterloo scored their second goal approximately 15 seconds later when Elliott Messmer scored from the face-off. Defenseman Tyler Williams picked up the loose ball off the wing and passed to Messmer, who took it behind the cage before driving to the net. Due to a clock error, the two Waterloo goals occurred at the same game time.

Newark came back before the close of the quarter to add another two goals and maintain their one goal lead. During a clear, Williams took the ball all the way to the net and scored on a high bounce shot against Bailey. Timerson added his second goal of the game when he backed his way towards the crease from the restraining line. Once he got close enough for a shot, he turned and shot a low shot into the bottom corner. Newark led 3-2 at halftime.

Much like in the second quarter, Waterloo scored the first two goals to take a one goal lead halfway through the quarter. Both goals were scored with straight dodges by Zarrien Sloan, at 6:04 and 5:15 remaining in the quarter. Newark scored the tying goal only 0:23 later when Timerson scored on an outside shot. The final go ahead goal was the only assisted goal of the game. Newark scored when Alan Caster passed the ball to Eli Ebanks with 2:45 remaining. Ebanks finished the game with two goals and also led the Reds in ground balls. Both he and Camblin finished with seven ground balls. Defenseman Dave Milliman finished with five. Newark led 5-4 after three quarters.

In the final quarter, Newark added three goals and held the Indians scoreless. Newark began the quarter with the ball (as the result of a penalty). 0:35 later they scored when Jeff Nowak fired the shot from outside. John Denniston scored with a straight drive with 7:44 remaining in the game. One minute later and Ebanks scored the final goal. Ebanks drove from the top of the restraining line, beat his man, and then faked Bailey before putting the ball into the upper corner.

At the face-off for Newark, Ebanks finished 5/9 (56%) and Landon Alvarado finished 3/5 (60%). For Waterloo, Sloan finished 7/14 (50%). Midfielder John Butlak led Waterloo in ground balls with nine. Butlak picked up three of his ground balls on the face-off wing. Sloan finished with four while Charlie Eshenour, Blain Covey and Bailey finished with three each.

 --   Geneva defeated Mynderse 18-2 this afternoon. The Panthers were led in scoring by Billy Eddington with six goals. Sophomore Sean Cunningham finished with 3g-3a. In the cage for Geneva, Derek Grillone played three quarters and recorded 11 saves. Tom Lynch played the final quarter and recorded two saves. For Mynderse, Brett Wood scored two goals and Mike Clark recorded two assists. Between the pipes, Tim Trickler finished with 12 saves.

 --  Pal-Mac defeated Marcus Whitman 17-6 this afternoon. Marcus Whitman began to show some fatigue after playing five games in seven days with only 13 active players on their roster. Whitman goalie, Merritt Bailey, had another stellar performance, finishing with 28 saves. Of those 10 were in the opening quarter when Pal-Mac had seven goals. Leading in scoring for the Wildcats were junior Jeffrey Bero (1g-2a) and freshman Matt Hall (2g).

Pal-Mac (11-3) had 13 of their goals assisted. Freshman attackman Ben Reeves (1g-8) had eight of them, while senior midfielder Mike Russell scored 6g-21 and senior attackman Mike DeMar finished with 3g-2a). Eight players made the offensive scorebook, while, in the nets, senior goalie Matt Carkner made eight saves.
