| May 7, 2011 - It was a tough day for several teams that played out-of-section games today as Penn Yan lost a close one to Clarence, Hamburg beat Thomas and Aquinas lost a close one to Timon. HF-L, however had a win over Eden. In the section, Pittsford had a close win over Brighton, and Bath beat Livonia (9-8). Other winners included Waterloo, Victor, Irondequoit, Eastridge, Thunder, Pal-Mac and Geneva.
-- Waterloo improved their record to 5-5 with their 14-1 win over Midlakes in Finger Lakes action this morning. The Indians led 8-1 at the halftime break and junior goalie Josh Bailey had eight saves and a shutout in the second half. Senior offensive man Cody Riegel put in seven goals and added an assist and Tim Wright added 2g-4a for Waterloo who travel on Tuesday and play Bloomfield Honeoye.
Waterloo reported that Luke Maslyn scored for Midlakes. There was no report from the Eagles.

-- Pittsford continued their undefeated season by defeating Brighton 11-10 and holding off a late Brighton advance. The game was close through its entirety. It was tied at five times, at 1,2,3,5 and 6.  Once the Panthers tied the game at 6-6 with 6:39 remaining in the third quarter, they never lost the lead again.
Pittsford scored the first of the game with an unassisted goal by Matt Palmer. Brighton came back and scored two goals in the next minute. Casey Kopp and Alex Lebowitz both scored unassisted goals. Pittsford came back only 0:39 later to tie the game again at 2-2. Brighton scored the final goal of opening quarter when Kurt Minges assisted CJ Wool. Brighton led 3-2 after one quarter.
Pittsford opened the second quarter with three unanswered goals to take a two goal lead. Corey Parke, James Burke and Alex Kober each scored an unassisted goal for the Panthers. Overall, 10/11 Panther goals were unassisted. With 2:03 remaining in the second quarter Pittsford led by two. Brighton's Brackett Bourne scored (with an assist from Wool) with 0:06 remaining in the first half. Pittsford led 5-4 going into halftime.
Brighton scored two early goals in the third quarter, both by Steven Cregan, to take a one goal lead with 8:38 remaining in the third quarter. Pittsford scored the next four goals to take the lead. After this point, the Panthers held off the advances of the Barons to secure the win. Brighton scored the final goal of the game to bring the score within one goal with 1:04 remaining in the game. Alex Ballatori scored with an assist from Kurt Minges during a man-up situation for the Barons.

--  Irondequoit held McQuaid Jesuit to only one goal in each quarter. The Eagles won 13-4, scoringsix goals in second quarter. Irondequoit scored 12 out of 13 goals in a row spanning the second, third and fourth quarters.
McQuaid Jesuit started the game close. Max Phelps scored the opening goal unassisted for the Knights. Irondequoit tied the game with 1:09 remaining in the first quarter when Max Kostyk assisted Briele Caples. The first quarter ended with the score tied at 1-1. McQuaid scored the first goal of the second quarter to take the lead again. Brian Nally was assisted by Duncan Ayer with 10:18 left in the opening half. Irondequoit finished out the quarter scoring six unanswered goals. The first half ended with Irondequoit leading 7-2.
The Eagles kept up the scoring in the third quarter. Emmy Poccia, Jake Schmidt, Nick Doktor scored. The lone McQuaid goal of the quarter was scored by Ian Horning. In the fourth quarter, Irondequoit added another three goals before McQuaid Jesuit scored the final goal. George Jerman added two goals and Alex Torpey the final goal for Irondequoit. Ayer added his second goal of the night with an unassisted man-up goal with 3:20 remaining in the game.
In the cage, Irondequoit played three goalies. Eric Fischer (4 saves), Mac Romal (1 save) and Alex Shoemaker (1 save) each saw time between the pipes. For McQuaid Jesuit, Brendan Caufield played six minutes, but did not face a shot. Pat Sheridan played the first 42 minutes and recorded seven saves.

-- Greece Athena/Odyssey secured their second win of the season as they beat Batavia 17-8. The Thunder, who initially had trouble defensively, came together after a goalie switch in the middle of the first quarter. Batavia came out early, leading after the first quarter 5-2. After the goalie change, five minutes into the first quarter, the Blue Devils only scored five goals in the remainder of the game.
In the second quarter the Thunder stepped up and added six goals. At halftime, Greece led 8-6. Long stick midfielder Keenan Mahoney was impressive for the Thunder finishing with a team leading eight ground balls. Offensively, Greece looked to their attack. Of their 17 goals, 13 were scored by attackman. Senior Gino Prestigiacomo led with 5g-4a with sophomore Pat Crowe (1g-6a) adding significant numbers to the totals.
For Batavia, senior midfielder Chad Luce scored four goals and added two assists and his classmate, Scott McAllister scored two goals and had two assists for the Blue Devils. Long stick defenseman, Trevor Powers added an assist to his record and Dylan Buchholtz and James Gomez split time in the goal.
-- Despite an fourth quarter surge, consistent scoring throughout the game allowed Clarence of Section VI to take their 5-2 halftime to a 7-6 win over visiting Penn Yan. The mustangs, trailing 6-3 after three quarters, outscored the Red Devils 3-1 in the final quarter. Clarence, a Buffalo Class A team, is now 10-0.
Leading the Mustang's offensive list were Dylan Yonts (3g) and JJ Voigt (2g-2a). Freshman goalie hit the fifty percent mark with seven saves for Penn Yan (9-3) who hosts HF-L on Tuesday.

 -- Bath took a first quarter 4-1 lead and held on for the rest of the game as the Rams won a 9-8 GRALL victory over visiting Livonia. Both teams scored two goals in the second quarter but the Bulldogs won both the third quarter (3-2) and the last quarter (2-1).
The Rams, who were riding high from their GRALL win against McQuaid earlier in the week, had difficulties in their second league loss to the Rams. "Unfortunately, the things we did in our last League game did not carry over to today's game," said Livonia Coach Brett Wood. "On the bright side it was certainly a big improvement as compared to the last time we played." The Rams won the first meeting 15-7 on April 12th.
Leading the offense for Bath-Haverling were Zach Reed (2g-2a) and Kyle Harrison (3g-1a). Andrew Clark recorded 17 saves for Bath (8-1).
For Livonia, Derek Bishopp had 5g. Ethan Jamison had 16 saves.

-- HF-L defeated Eden (Section VI) 15-10 today. The Raiders fell to 8-4 after the loss. Eden kept the game close early. However, in the third quarter, HF-L scored five unanswered goals to take the lead and never looked back.
Jason Boike scored the opening goal for the Cougars only 1:03 into the first quarter. Eden quickly tied the game and then took the lead 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter HF-L came back, scoring three unanswered goals and taking the two goal lead. Boike added his third goal of the game to tie the score at 3-3. Goals from Mitchell Kinney and another from Boike game the Cougars their lead with 4:13 remaining in the second quarter. Eden scored one goal before time expired. HF-L led 5-4 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Eden started with the first goal before HF-L started their scoring streak. They scored five goals spanning less than three minutes to increase their lead to 10-5. Two goals from Drew Tallon and Jason Boike and one goal from Ian Holtby secured the lead for the Cougars. For the rest of the game HF-L held off their advances with scoring going back and forth.
Boike finished the game as the big scorer for the Cougars with 8g-1a. Defenseman Keenan O'Brien finished with a team leading 12 ground balls. In the cage for the Cougars, Nick Beniamino finished with four saves.

-- Palmyra-Macedon improved their record to 7-3 with a 16-3 win over host Bloomfield-Honeoye in a 7:00 game tonight. The Red Raiders scored five goals in the opening quarter and led 8-1 at the half. While scored four goals in each of the remaining quarters, Pal-Mac held the Pride to a single goal in the third quarter.
There were lots of players on the offensive book, twelve in fact. Senior midfielder Mike Russell led the list with 5g-1a along with freshman attackman Ben Reeves (2g-3a) and senior attackman Mike DeMar (1g-4a). Senior goalie Matt Carkner had seven saves for Pal-Mac. There was no report from Bloomfield-Honeoye.

-- Although Marcus Whitman took an early 2-0 lead, Geneva tied the game at 2-2 with 1:19 left to go in the first quarter. It was 4-3 at halftime but Geneva pulled away in the third with a 4-0 quarter before taking a 10-1 victory on Boswell Field at Hobart College.
Senior attackman Billy Eddington had 4g-1a to lead the Panther offense while sophomore goalie Derek Grillone (10s-3ga) and the Geneva man-down unit defended against twelve man down opportunities.
Sophomore attackman Karl Gray had 1g-2a and Jeffrey Bero and Matt Hay each added one goal for the Wildcats. Freshman goalie Merritt Bailey was credited with sixteen saves.
-- Webster Thomas traveled to the Genesee Community College to take on Hamburg of Section VI this afternoon. The Bulldogs took the first quarter 3-2 and led at the half 9-4 before beating the Titans 14-9. Thomas battled back in the third quarter getting as close as 10-7, but Hamburg (11-2) pulled away with four fourth quarter goals.
Senior midfielder JT Hauck led the offense for Thomas with 3g-1a. Justin Bird added 2g-1a and Troy Crevier had 1g-2a for the Titans (8-5) who start out next week playing at Penfield on Tuesday.
-- Timon scored three unanswered goals in the first and led 4-1 at the half, but a six goal surge in the fourth quarter had Aquinas within one, as Timon finished with an 8-7 home game win. Klay Heston led the Little Irish in scoring with four goals.
-- Ray Shalvoy had four goals and Jordan Michele added 2g-4a as the Bombers took a 10-6 victory from Arc/Oly. There was no report from the Lightning.
