| April 30, 2011 - In the nicest game day of the season , thus far, There were lots of games and a few surprises in the Section. Bath won a 13-10 victory over Aquinas, Brighton scored five goals in the fourth quarter to take a 12-10 win from Rush-Henrietta. Other winners included the Thunder over Gananda (for their first win of the season), Thomas beat Victor 11-8, C-C was a 15-8 victor over Hilton and Eastridge beat Newark (3-2) in over time. Geneva, Pittsford, Penn Yan, Irondequoit, Spencerport and ER had convincing wins. Canandaigua was an 11-5 winner over McQuaid Jesuit and Spencerport was a 12-7 winner over HF-L.

--  Greece Athena/Odyssey secured their first win of the season with a 16-10 win over Gananda. Scotty Tam-Grimshaw won the first face-off of the game and drove straight to the goal where he crossed a pass to Anthony Merola for the first goal of the game only 0:10 into the game.
Gananda had a lead after the first quarter, but the Thunder came back to lead at halftime 9-4. Merola finished with a team leading 6g-2a and Tam-Grimshaw finished with 4g-1a. In the cage, Zack Rudgers finished with seven saves. Ken Mohrman played three minutes in the cage, but did not make a save.
Blue Panther scoring was led by Ian Palmer (3g), Kyler Friesner (2g-1a) and Trevor Schraffenberger (2g). Joe Picket and Zach O`Connor each had four ground balls.

-- Bath scored the first goal of the contest 1:15 into the game and never trailed in their 13-10 win over Aquinas. The Rams had a strong performance over four quarters and kept the Little Irish from coming together and scoring more than three goals in a row. In the second half, Bath scored six out of the last ten goals.
Nick Rossi scored the first of his four goals to set the pace for the game. Zach Watson assisted Rossi for the opening goal. Aquinas scored their first goal nearly six minutes later when Alex Bianchi scored during man-up (assisted by Klay Heston). There were three goals scored in the final three minutes of the first quarter and all of them were scored during man-up. Bath scored the first with Rossi adding his second goal (assisted by Zach Reed). Mike Messina scored the first of his two goals during man-up with a feed from Nick Weston. With 0:59 remaining Bath took the lead again with Reed assisting Brian Gable. The Rams led 3-2 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter Bath increased their lead to two goals 1:15 into the quarter. Jeff Chapman scored after another assist from Reed. Messina added his second goal less than a minute later to keep the game within one goal. Reed's first goal of the game was assisted by Gable and only 0:17 after Messina's goal. Bath had their two goal lead with 9:43 remaining in the first half. Aquinas scored two goals over the next five minutes to tie the game for the third time. Jake Vogl and Weston scored. The final three minutes of the second quarter were similar to the first but this time four goals were scored in the final three minutes. With 2:59 remaining, Rossi scored unassisted for Bath. With 1:06 remaining, Gable scored (assisted by goalie Andrew Clark) for the two goal lead for the Rams. Clark finished with 12 saves (55%). Six seconds later and Heston added his first goal to keep Aquinas close. Gable scored the final goal of the quarter with only 0:16 on the clock. Bath led by two at the half (8-6).
In the third quarter, Bath added three goals to their score while holding Aquinas scoreless. Gable, Wager and Rossi scored the goals with Reed assisting two and Rossi assisting the third. The third quarter ended with Bath leading 11-6. Aquinas attempted to stage a comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring the first three goals but only came within two. Heston scored the first two goals of the quarter with Pete DiLaura adding the third. The final two Bath goals of the game were scored by Wager and Kyle Harrison with Tyler Hutcheson assisting on both goals. Aquinas scored their final goal with 3:35 remaining in the game. Messina assisted the final goal to Heston.
In the cage for Aquinas, Erich Wischmeyer and Tom Mscichowski both saw time between the pipes. Wischmeyer finished with five saves and Mscichowski finished with five saves.

-- Churchville-Chili defeated Hilton 15-8 with the help from a seven goal second quarter. Spanning the end of the second quarter and the beginning of the third quarter, Churchville-Chili took the game from tied at 6-6 to a lead of 12-6.
Hilton started the game off strong, scoring the first two goals of the game. Evan Pace and Jake Montgomery scored the opening goals. The Saints added their first goal with 7:07 remaining in the opening quarter. Hilton's David Smith scored to keep the Cadets ahead by two goals. Within thirty seconds, Churchville-Chili tied the score. Trevor Hodgins and Ryan Yunker scored their first goals with three minute remaining in the quarter. Cory Endres scored the final goal of the quarter with 1:25 remaining to give the Cadets a one goal lead after one quarter.
Churchville-Chili took their first lead of the game after scoring the first two goals of the second quarter. Bonafede's second goal and Jeff Gurbacki's first goal took the Saints into the lead. Hilton retaliated with two of their own to retake the lead. Kyle Youngman and Mike Meeks each scored their lone goal of the game for Hilton. With 6:27 remaining, the Cadets led by one goal. Churchville-Chili scored the next seven goals. Gurbacki,  Yunker, and Kevin Widzinski each added two goals with Hodgins adding the seventh. Hilton scored the final goal of the third quarter with 3:50 remaining when Endres scored unassisted.
In the fourth quarter, Churchville-Chili kept up the pressure scoring the first three goals before Hilton added the final goal of the game. Hodgins scored his final goal and Nick Gray added both of his goals. Jake Montgomery added the final Cadet goal with Youngman assisting. Montgomery's goal was scored during extra-man offense.
In the cage, Jack Corcoran finished with ten recorded saves (56%) for the Saints. Hilton's Mark Detroia played the entire game and recorded seven saves. For Churchville-Chili, defensemen Nick Bruno (8) and Scott Shamp (7) led in the ground ball count. Midfielder Taylor Kolmer and attackman Hodgins each added six ground balls to the count.

-- In one of the lowest scoring games of the season, Eastridge defeated Newark 3-2 with 0:53 remaining in the first overtime period. Ethan Printy scored unassisted overtime goal to secure the win for the Lancers. He scored two of the three goals for Eastridge.
The game began with each team scoring one goal in the opening quarter. Jeff Nowak, of Newark, scored the first goal (unassisted) six minutes into the game. A little less than six minutes later and Printy added his first goal (unassisted) with 0:20 remaining in the opening quarter. Both teams were held scoreless in the second and third quarters.
In the fourth quarter each team added a single goal to their count. Eastridge scored first with Mike Mortillaro scoring during man-up with a feed from Chris Giruzzi. Four minutes later and Jack Timerson scored (assisted by Eli Ebanks) to keep the game tied and send to overtime.
In the cage for Eastridge, TJ Ennis finished with six saves (75%). Dominic Camblin played the entire game for Newark and recorded 11 saves (78%). Printy led the Lancers in ground balls as well with 7. For Newark, Dave Milliman led with three ground balls.

 -- Canandaigua defeated McQuaid Jesuit 11-5 this afternoon at McQuaid. The Braves won each quarter with the Knights only scoring two goals in the third quarter (and one goal in each other quarter). Mark Greer and DJ Goldstein each had a team leading five ground balls for Canandaigua. Nick Como finished 6/8 and Ethan Mack finished 5/8 at the face-off draw.
There were a very large number of penalties called on both team but the Canandaigua man-down defense had a strong game. They finished with only one goal against in eleven minutes of man-down play.
Coach Ed Mulheron writes that his defense, Greg Smith-Wilcox, Nick Smith, Jordan Quayle, Dom Savitcheff and Waddy Sykes stepped up to keep McQuaid's scoring low. Leading the scoring for the Braves were Dave Serron (3g-1a) and Mark Greer (4g). In the cage, Corey Griffin played the entire game and finished with 17 saves.
For the Knights, Clark Hadley led the offense with two goals and Ryan Williams added 1g-1a. Pay Sheridan has ten saves for McQuaid Jesuit.

-- Pittsford held Frontier (of Section VI) scoreless in their 13-0 win over the Falcons and remain the only team in the Section that is undefeated (10-0). The Panthers took the game to running time in the third quarter.
Pittsford had scoring from eight different players. Leading the charge were Albie DiPasquale (5g), Alex Kober (3g-1a) and James Burke (2g-1a). Overall, the Panthers took 29 shots. Burke led Pittsford in ground balls with four. DiPasquale, Kevin Sanna, Stephen Quinzi and Tyler Aycock each added three ground balls to the count.
In the cage, Conor Quinn finished with five saves over three quarters and Cahal Moulton finished with two saves for the Panthers.

-- Rush-Henrietta started out with the first quarter (3-2) lead and maintained that lead into the half as both teams scored two more goals before the half. In the end, however, Brighton's five goal fourth quarter gave them a 12-10 victory over the visiting Royal Comets.
Torry Whitcher led the R-H offense with 4g-2a while Chauncey Scissum and Jackson Sadowski each added two goals. Brighton's offensive effort was led by Steven Cregan with 5g-1a and CJ Wool with four goals who scored three of his four in the final quarter.
The Barons came up strong defensively in the fourth quarter led by goaltender Jordan Carey had thirteen saves and by short-stick middies Tyrone Reaves, Will Banahene, and Justin Ryan.

Webster Schroeder had five players with one point each. Liam Wheatley, Dylan DiFante and Cody Henry each added one goal and Parrish McKnight and Brandon Harris each added one assist. Penn Yan had seven different players make their scorebook. Five different players had two goals: Dylan Yonts (with 3a), Anthony Luppino (with 2a), JJ Voigt (with 1a), Ryan Maciejewski and Corey Grace.
In the cage, Penn Yan played two goals. Brandon Maciejewski finished with nine saves and Matt Spoor finished with three saves. For Schroeder, Eric Saltrelli played the entire game and recorded four saves. Attackman Nick Powell led in ground balls with four. Chase Kuhl, Josh Reed and McKnight each added three to the tally. For Penn Yan, Luppino led with six and defenseman Mike Thiesmeyer added five. Luppino was also impressive at the face-off. He finished 10/12.

-- Irondequoit defeated Timon/St. Jude (Section VI) 13-7. The Eagles were behind after the first quarter 3-2 before scoring three unanswered goals before the halftime break. In the third quarter Irondequoit extended their lead to 9-4. The Eagles' Nick Doktor (4g-2a) and Emmy Poccia (4g) led in scoring. Three goalies played for Irondequoit; Eric Fischer, Alex Shoemaker and Mac Romal. Fischer finished with seven saves, Shoemaker finished with one save and Romal finished with one save.

-- Spencerport scored five of the first six goals to defeat HF-L 12-7. Except of the beginning of the game, the Cougars never got within two goals of the Rangers. In the cage for Spencerport, Tyler Schweikert finished with 11 saves and 1 assist. For HF-L, Nick Beniamino finished with 10 saves.
Ben Tribunella, Bryan Stehm and Dom Gruttadauria scored the first three goals for the Rangers and James Spencer (assisted by Drew Tallon) scored the first goal for HF-L. With 2:56 remaining in the opening quarter, Spencerport led 3-1. In the final minute of play in the opening quarter, three goals were scored. Spencerport's Corey Sauers and Tribunella both scored unassisted. For HF-L, Tallon scored (unassisted) during man-up with 0:11 remaining in the quarter. Spencerport led 5-2 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Spencer added his second goal (assisted by Evan Gaudette) for the Cougars. Matt Kaser scored his first goal for the Rangers during man-up with midfielder Seth Miller assisting. Miller finished with an impressive 82% draw rate at the face-off (14/17). He also finished with nine ground balls. Midfielder Levi Basynnski finished with a team leading 10 ground balls for the Rangers. Tallon's second goal kept the Cougars close (within two goals). But Gruttadauria finished the quarter with an unassisted goal to give Spencerport the 7-4 lead going into halftime.
In the third quarter Spencerport scored four and held the Cougars to only one. Tribunella added his third and final goal along with Stehm's second and two goals from Marcus Palvino. The lone HF-L goal was scored by Connor Flaherty. The third quarter ended with Spencerport leading 11-5. Kaser scored the first goal of the final quarter with an assist from Palvino with 9:54 remaining. The last two goals of the game were scored by HF-L. Mitchell Kinney and Tallon scored. Tallon's goal was scored during man-up and was assisted by Flaherty.

-- East Rochester scored six goals in the first quarter and held Batavia scoreless in the second. The Bombers led 8-2 at halftime. Leading the scoring for East Rochester were Jordan Michele (3g-5a) and John Reiss (4g-3a). In the cage, Liridon Dervisholli and Jonathan Caton split time. Dervisholli (who played 40 minutes) recorded 11 saves and Caton recorded one save. No report from Batavia.
-- Junior attackman Paul Kysor had five goals and two assists as the Blue Devils beat the Greece Lightning 12-6 on Saturday morning. Paul Duthoy has twelve saves for Brockport (3-4)) who host Hilton on Tuesday. There have been no reports from The Lightning.
