March 16, 2011 - Along with thoughts on the contenders in each of the three classes, the SportsFive team will profile each division within each league. The annual "Flower Power" symbol, used to quickly see strengths and weaknesses within divisions will be used again this year.
Don't miss the preseason rankings, which will be available as part of the preview as well.
Last year, the SportsFive team was pretty good at picking the the finalists, including picking Fairport over Pittsford in Class A. The team also picked Penn Yan and Aquinas would reach the finals in Class C, where Aquinas dethroned the Mustangs to become the only other Sectional Five team to win a Class C title. In Class B the team picked Canandaigua who lost to Irondequoit (picked as #2) in the semifinals. Irondequoit beat Thomas (picked 3rd) for the Championship.
"It gets more difficult each year, to guess what will happen at the end of the year," says Paul Wilson, who heads the team. "The quality of play just keeps getting better and the is greater parity each year."
The increase in talent is more evident as more and more Section Five players continue to play lacrosse at the college level. The SportsFive Player Page already lists thirty-nine players who are planning to play on college teams with fourteen playing at the D-1 level.
There is lots more to be said about the teams, the players and the competition. Look for the coverage, coming soon on SportsFive.NET.
