March 26, 2010 -
March, 2010 - Bath finished last year with a 1-6 record in GRALL (9-8 overall). Seeded seventh in the Class C tournament, the Rams defeated Bloomfield-Honeoye in the first round and lost to Aquinas in the quarter finals to finish as seeded. The Rams continued to improve, finishing their second consecutive season above .500. They played Livonia three times last season (6-8, 7-6, 6-10) and lost close games against both McQuaid Jesuit (2-6, 5-10) and Aquinas (10-13). The days of Bath losing by double digits are long gone and the Rams have proven they are here to stay.
Graduation spared the offense but took a serious chunk from the Rams defense. The loss of three year starting goalie Chris Wolfer and starting defenseman and team leader Brent Harrison will be major obstacles for them to overcome. Tyler Reed, a transfer last season from Corning East, graduated with 37g-12a.
Zach Reed returns for his junior year with the Rams. Reed has led the team in assists for two years in a row and looks to continue that progress this season. Two years ago Reed was eleventh in assists and seventeenth in points in all of Section Five. For his sophomore year he was third in assists and tied for ninth in points with 28g-48a. Reed, with two years remaining in high school, looks to be shaping up to be one of the strongest assisters in the Section and looks to continue to lead his team to another successful season. He has made a verbal commitment to play for Hobart in 2011.
Joining Reed in the offense are leading goals scorer Nick Rossi and senior attackman Mark Martuscello. Rossi finished last season with 41g-22a to lead the midfield. Martuscello added 23g-14a from the attack. Additionally midfielders Matt Nesbitt, Brian Gable and Drew Wagner should make contributions this season. Nesbitt, who was out most of last year with a knee injury, hopes to stay healthy this season.
Coach Ken DiDomineck writes, "The defense will have a different goalie for the first time in three years. Last year's JV goalie Robert Masti will be looked upon to fill Chris Wolfer's shoes." Masti, a junior, will have some support in the close defense with three year starter Tim Wolfer returning for his senior year. Sophomore Trevor Lang and junior Tyler Hutchenson (LSM) will also add stability to the defensive unit.
Although the Rams are improving each season, they are not quite ready to challenge the top of Class C. However, Bath is among the stronger teams in the second tier of Class C and should not be overlooked by any team. Coach DiDomineck has scheduled out of league contests against Mynderse, East Rochester, Penn Yan, Batavia, Midlakes and Brockport. Top Returning Players:
