- Batavia has become stronger in each of their three years in existence. After finishing their inaugural Batavia 2009season at 0-17 just three years ago, the Blue Devils came back and defeated higher seed Pal-Mac in the first round of the tournament two years ago and finished with three wins. Last season Batavia once again won their first round game (against Waterloo) and finished with seven wins. They finished fifth in Monroe County division III with a 5-7 record. The Blue Devils look to continue this year with their first winning season.

Although Coach Chuck Hammon left between seasons, new Head Coach, Jeremy Mettler, is poised to step into the driver's seat for the Blue Devils. "The season will start with a whole new coaching staff but a lot of experience on the field," writes Coach Mettler. Batavia, having lost seven players to graduation will look to replace their second leading scorer, Joe Muoio, (Second Team) who has continued to play lacrosse at Medaille.

Offensively, the return of Will Mulcahy will help the Blue Devils. Mulcahy led in goals, assists and points for Batavia last season with 36g-28a. He was named to the Second Team list last season and will be joined in the attack by Joe Pedro (24g-2a). Leading the charge at the midfield will be Chip Chapman (35g-9a).

Defensively, returning senior goalie Theo Hill will be the cornerstone for the Blue Devils. Hill finished last season at 59% with 305 saves and was a major player for Batavia, keeping them in a number of close games. Coach Mettler notes, "There is a chance that eight of the starters will be seniors. We are hoping senior leadership will give us a good start and will demonstrate to the younger players how to play under pressure and with discipline."

Overall, Monroe County division III is the right place for the Blue Devils. Batavia is in the perfect place to improve their record from last season and keep growing as a program. Monroe County Division III teams are allowed to schedule four games out-of-league games and Coach Mettler has scheduled two contests against Bath, one against Newark and the fourth game against Medina.
