March, 2010 - Brockport finished last season with a 10-2 record in Monroe County Division III (10-6 overall). With a new league orientation, the Blue Devils will move to Monroe County Division II this season. Coach Ryan Egan writes," The 2010 season will be a season of opportunity for Brockport Lacrosse. Brockport will play in the MC 2 division which will provide significant challenges and adversity based on the increased level of competition."
Last season the Blue Devils were ranked fifth going into the Class A tournament, but lost to Gates Chili in the first round and finished in the number twelve slot. The Blue Devils lost eleven seniors and a strong defensive junior from the 2009 season. Two of the graduating seniors have continued to play in college this season; Ryan Pratt (Potsdam) and Dylan White (Lake Erie). The loss of White in the cage will be tough on the Blue Devils. An additional loss for Brockport came when senior Will Glynn (first team defense) decided against coming out for the team.
Pratt graduated as the leading assister and in point totals for the Blue Devils, but the return of midfielder Jake Burns brings back the leading goal scorer from 2009. Burns finished the season with 47g -14a. He will be joined in the midfield by senior Pat Steves (Second Team midfield) who added 14g-6a last season. In the attack, Trevor Hayward (32g-19a) will be a strong player for the Blue Devils but as the only returning attackman from the 2009 roster, Brockport will need to find some new blood to step up early in the season.
Defensively, the loss of Glynn and White will hurt the close defense for Brockport. James Mault and John Pacitto (First Defense) will be keys to the Blue Devils success. Last year's backup goalie Chris Ioannone will step into the cage for his senior year. He played for 76 minutes spanning 6 games last season with 9 saves.
Moving into Division II has created a much harder schedule for the Blue Devils who will be fielding a much younger team this season. Coach Egan has high hopes saying the team will be, "focused on fundamental lacrosse and hard work." With the league alignments Coach Egan has three games to schedule from out league competition. They will play Greece Ath/Ody, Spencerport and Bath in those non-league slots. Top Returning Players: Top New Players: None Listed Updated:03/26/2010 |
