March 26, 2010 -
March, 2010 - Newark finished seventh in Finger Lakes Division I with a 1-7 record (4-14 overall). The Reds lost to Irondequoit in the first round of the Class B Tournament to finish as seeded. Graduation was rough on Newark with thirteen players leaving the roster. Of those, midfielders Taylor Culver and Chad Morrison continue to play lacrosse this season at FLCC. The loss of defenseman Robert Camblin will be the hardest felt. Camblin was the only first team nod that Newark received last season. In total the Reds lost all but one starting close defenseman and one midfielder. This will require junior Eli Ebanks (midfield) and senior Alex Thomas (defense) to step up into leadership roles.
The good news for Newark is the returns of the lead goals scorer (Luke Hartman) and Jack Timerson (tied for leading assists). Timerson and Hartman will lead the attack and the entire team as well. Timerson finished with 18g-13a and Hartman had 24g-8a. Newark will need new players to step up at the midfield if they want to compete in the new Finger Lakes single division league.
Newark will also look to new Varsity players Dan Johnson (senior) and David Milliman (sophomore) for support. In the cage, the Reds bring back last season's starting goalie Dominic Camblin for his sophomore year. Camblin finished with Honorable Mention honors and 223 saves for the season.
With the combining of the Finger Lakes divisions into a single division with eight teams, the coaches were only allowed to schedule two out of league games and Coaches Matt Groot and Henry Kuperus scheduled Greece Ath/Ody and Batavia. The Reds lost to both teams last season by small margins (Ath/Ody won 11-9 and Batavia won 12-8) and hope to come back this season with two more wins.
