March, 2010 - Marcus Whitman returns for their second season at varsity in 2010 and are still looking for their first win after a 0-19 season. Seeded thirteenth, the Wildcats lost to Geneva in the first round and finished as seeded in the Class C tournament. With twenty-six players on their inaugural roster, Marcus Whitman only graduated four players. With fifteen returning seniors, the Wildcats have one of the largest senior classes in all of Section Five.
Senior Shawn Allen, who was named to First Team All League in attack last season returns with 17g-4a under his belt as well as twenty-three saves in the cage spanning two games. The Wildcats had thirteen different players make the scorebook last season and look to increase that number this year. Coach Bruce Teague writes, "we have some good talent coming up from the JV level."
Defensively Marcus Whitman will look to returning starting goalie Nick Cosmano for leadership between the pipes. Cosmano finished with 139 saves last season. In the close defense, senior Collin Ayers (Second Team) and junior Brendan Personale (First Team) both finished with post-season honors.
With the combining of divisions in the Finger Lakes league, Marcus Whitman is in for another building year. With eight teams in the league, only two out of league contests could be scheduled and Coach Teague filled those spots with games against Livonia. Coach Teague, "It's been exciting to watch this team develop and mold into a unit ready to compete in the Finger Lakes."
