The Herb Fitch Lacrosse Senior All Star Game finished with the White team defeating the Blue team 15-12. The game culminated with the naming of the offensive and defensive MVPs. Theoffensive most valuable player was Chris Button who finished with six goals on seven shots and four ground balls for the White team. Button, who was recently graduated from Fairport, will be attending Lemoyne in the fall. The defensive most valuable player was Tim Caton who finished with three ground balls, two shots and one assist for the White team. Caton, who was recently graduated from McQuaid Jesuit, will be attending Sacred Heart in the fall.

The Blue team came out to a quick three goal lead, beginning with a fast-break goal by Austin Gorman (Aquinas/Robert Morris), assisted by Ken Tomeno (Thomas/Marist). Chris Aycock (R-H/Nazareth) and Gannon Osborn (Canandaigua/St. John Fisher) hooked up for the second goal for the Blue team with an inside shot from goal line extended. The third goal was scored (unassisted) by James Purpura (Pittsford/Mount St. Mary's) with an inside dodge. The 3-0 lead was the largest that the Blue team held. The White team scored the next seven goals and ten of the next eleven. Button had his first goal on a feed from Jeff Wester (Livonia/St. John Fisher). The second white goal was scored during a fast-break situation with Mike Crawford (McQuaid/Cornell) scoring with a feed from Nate Nichols (Penn Yan/Bridgeton Academy). The tying goal was scored with 0:59 remaining on the clock and was scored with a sidearm shot from the top of the restraining box by Button. The score was tied 3-3 at the close of the first quarter.

In the second quarter the White team scored the first five goals. Martin Manilla (Fairport/Gettysburg) scored after an inside dodge to give White their first lead of the game. The second goal was also the first man-up goal. There were four penalties assessed in the game and all four man-up situations resulted in goals. Tyler Brooks-Lambert (Midlakes/Keuka) scored after a cross-crease feed from Manilla. White continued their scoring streak with an unassisted goal by Pete Noto (Schroeder/Rutgers). The final White goal in the set was scored by Cody Consul (Schroeder/Cortland) and assisted by James Sturnick (McQuaid/RIT). White led 7-3 and the only Blue goal of the second quarter was scored when Brandon Thomson (Canandaigua/Mercyhurst) scored with a dead-ball drive from behind the cage. White added two more goals (the first of which was in extra-man offense) before the quarter expired. Button added his third with an outside shot during man-up (assisted by Sturnick) and Brooks-Lambert added his second goal with an inside feed from Nichols. The White team led 9-4 going into halftime. In the first half for the White team Theo Hill (Batavia/Genesee CC) played between the pipes. Hill played 24 minutes and finished with four saves and four goals against.

In the third quarter White opened up the scoring with their tenth goal. Brooks-Lambert scored on the crease again; however this feed was from Noto. Blue came back with third first goal of the quarter three minutes later with another unassisted goal from Purpura. Button\'s fourth goal was assisted by Wester with a goal from the crease. Blue scored the next two goals in under one minute. Mike Utz (Irondequoit/St. John Fisher) scored on a feed from behind the cage by Deven Alves (Canandaigua/UMBC). Alves turned around less than a minute later to score during extra-man offensive with a dead-ball drive to the cage. White scored the final two goals of the quarter to increase their lead back to six goals. The White team led 13-7 after three quarters.

The Blue teams stepped up in the fourth quarter, outscoring White 5-2 and adding the final four goals of the contest. Blue scored the first goal of the quarter with an unassisted goal from Osborn. White added their final two goals nearly four minutes apart. The penultimate was scored by Button and assisted by Sturnick and the final goal was scored by Nichols and assisted by Consul. Blue scored the final four goals in less than the final four minutes. With 3:49 remaining in the game, Purpura added his third goal (which led the Blue team) with an assist from Gorman during extra-man. Gorman came back to add a goal of his own with 2:03 remaining. Only 0:16 later Tucker Nelson (Penfield/Marist) scored his first (and only) goal of the game with an assist from Osborn. The final goal of the game was scored by Aycock and assisted by Gorman.

In the cage for the second half for the White team was Scott Tota (Schroeder/Cortland). Tota finished the game with 12 saves (60%). Nick King (Canandaigua/Penn State) played the entire game for the Blue team and finished with nine saves. For the Blue team, Ken Tomeno finished 8/18 at the face-off draw. For the White team Brooks-Lambert finished 7/10.

Leading in ground balls for the White team was Wester with eight ground balls. Also making contributions were Noto with six ground balls and James Cunningham (McQuaid/St. John Fisher) with five ground balls. For the Blue Team, King led with six ground balls. Also making contributions to the Blue team with five ground balls each were; Mike Warner (Geneva/Cortland), Tomeno, Aycock and Gorman. Defensively, for the blue team, Anthony Starnino (Aquinas/Limestone), Osborn and Warner all finished with two take-aways. For the White team, Cunningham led with three take-aways.

Also playing for the White team were Chris Reed (Fairport/RIT), Scott Miller (Penn Yan/Keuka), Mike Blood (Schroeder/Cortland), Spencer Wright (Fairport/Salisbury), David Haseley (McQuaid/St. John Fisher), Sean Beaney (Bloomfield-Honeoye/MCC), Adam Trombley (Penn Yan/Ohio State), Brendan Saylor (Fairport/Maryland) and Matt Barilla (Midlakes/Brockport).

Also playing for the Blue team were Joe Dupra (Pittsford/Marist), Adam Fingar (Canandaigua/Hartford), John Mikel (Irondequoit/MCC), Matt George (Canandaigua), Collin Ayers (Marcus-Whitman/FLCC), TJ Iuppa (Pittsford/Salisbury Prep), Tom LaCrosse (Canandaigua/Penn State), Nick Wolak (Brighton/Marist) and Chris Bausch (Livonia/MCC). Jack Hinderland (Thomas/Navy Prep) was originally scheduled to play for the Blue team, however was injured prior to today's game.
