Monroe County Division 1 and Division 2 has still not played league games yet but start this week with a few games. There are, once again, only a few changes in the rankings.
Once again, there no doubt that Fairport, Canandaigua and Penn Yan below the odds-on favorites in each class. Although Canandaigua (along with Brighton) are the only undefeated teams left in the Section, Canandaigua will play Fairport on Saturday, clearly a tough match for them.
This is vacation week is now over and it's back to a more busy schedule with sixteen games on Tuesday fourteen on Thursday and nine on the weekend.
CLASS A
The first minute of the game saw three goals against Fairport and although the rest of the game was very close, the Red Raiders lost to Section III's Jamesville-DeWitt (11-13) on Saturday so they drop out of the list of unbeatens. They are still the team to beat in Class A, but have have a challenging week with Schroeder and Canandaigua.
Pittsford's only loss thus far was a close one with Canandaigua in the season opener. They play Penfield on Tuesday and Churchville on Saturday which given them an opportunity to make a statement.
Besides Fairport, Schroeder plays Brockport and Irondequoit. Churchville-Chili has HFL along with Pittsford. Penfield has Pittsford and Victor and Rush-Henrietta has Gates and Thomas this week.
CLASS B
Canandaigua has won twenty-eight in a row and after wins with Penn Yan and Schroeder but face a very strong Fairport in their only game of the week. Thomas has a tough loss to Aquinas on Saturday, but still deserves the second stop. They will play Brockport and Rush-Henrietta this week.
We are moving McQuaid (8-1) up one slot to number three in light of their win win against AQ. They play Penn Yan on Tuesday. Irondequoit has Victor, Gates and Schroeder this week. In most years that would be an easy week, but Victor and Schroeder cannot be overlooked. Brighton is still undefeated (7-0) but the combined record of their opponents stands at 16-29. They have ER, Thunder and Gates Chili this week, and should be 10-0 a week from now. HFL has three games this week. They will play C-C on Tuesday, Hilton on Thursday and the Lightning on Saturday.
CLASS C
The Penn Yan vs Canandaigua game was fun to watch (except for the last three minutes, when CA successfully played keep-away.) The Mustangs will play three challenging games this week as they face McQuaid on Tuesday, Aquinas on Thursday and Baldwinsville on Saturday. (Baldwinsville is a swap for Somers who were originally scheduled for that date.) Aquinas is on a roll, with a good win against Thomas last week. They have Livonia and Penn Yan this week. Geneva will have their lone game this week with Pal-Mac. We will be interested in the results of that game. Midlakes also plays Pal-Mac this week (and Mynderse as well).
GAMES THIS WEEK
There are thirty-eight scheduled games this week and a number of really good match-ups which include:
On Tuesday Irondequoit and Victor play and Penfield is at Pittsford. Pal-Mac Midlakes could be good, Schroeder plays Fairport and C-C hosts HFL.
Pittsford and Churchville-Chili play on Thursday, R-H plays Thomas at McAvoy and Penn Yan is at Aquinas.
On Saturday, Fairport travels to Canandaigua and Schroeder is at Irondequoit.
Of course, if your team is playing, it is the Game of the Week.
