Saturday: Penn Yan over Livonia
 -

The only close game in the section today was, perhaps, the Thunder's win over Brockport. Elsewhere, Penn Yan took off in the third quarter on their way to a 15-5 win against Livonia. Thomas defeated Gates Chili, Victor beat Eastridge and Churchville-Chili was a winner over visiting Spencerport.

special -- In what was billed as a big outing, Penn Yan answered the question as to how their young team would play against a continuing improving Livonia, when they beat the visiting Bulldogs 15-5 under mid-June like weather.

The first quarter was quiet, with both teams spending a great deal of time running back and forth, as players rushed to the goal, only to lose possession and start clearing again. The first goal of the game, at 4:54, was scored by senior midfielder Nate Nichols who assisted on the second goal by Penn Yan eighth grade attackman, Bradley Voigt with 0:36 on the clock. Livonia's senior midfielder took the ball from the face off and drove straight to the goal, scoring at 0:20. Penn Yan won possession after the face off and called time out, after which junior middie Adam Stork fed the ball to Nichols who pumped one hard and high into the right corner with one second left in the quarter. The Mustangs led 3-1.

The Bulldogs seemed very much in the game in the second quarter, but Penn Yan was hampered by a series of penalties that gave Livonia a large amount of ball time. The scoring started in the first minute of the game, as Wester took the ball at midfield after a py-livtechnical face off win and carried the ball behind the cage. He spent the majority of the Livonia offensive time inverted and setting up drives or feeds from behind the Penn Yan cage. For this goal, he drove left and scored with an underhand shot.

The Bulldogs tied the game at three with Wester, behind the cage, feeding senior middie Ryan Smith at the top of the high crease. The tie did not last long as Penn Yan scored the next three goals, starting just twenty-four seconds later. The Mustangs scored on tight passes to cutters on who ended up with ten yard shots right in front of the goal. The Mustangs left for the corner of their stadium at the half-time break with a 6-3 lead.

An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, as the teams were leaving the field for halftime, gave the Mustangs a man-up opportunity and the ball at the start of the third quarter. They capitalized quickly, scoring at 11:45 when junior middie Anthony Luppino picked up a loose ball on the crease and popped in over Bulldog goalie, Ethan Jamison's head.

py-livThe third quarter was all Penn Yan as they shutout Livonia while scoring seven goals of their own. They scored another man up goal at 7:55 (Nichols from Preston Maciejewski) and then scored the next four goals about a minute apart. The last goal of the quarter was the result of a masterful pitch by sophomore goalie, Cody Richardson to hit a lead defenseman who caught the ball over his shoulder while on a full run down field. The ball then moved to Voigt who passed it to Maciejewski who scored on an open net as the goalie was caught out of position. The Mustangs led after three quarters, 13-3.

Precision passing in man up gave Penn Yan another goal at 8:37 in the last quarter and at 4:40 they scored their last goal of the game on an interior feed by junior middie Adam Stork to Voigt. A few minutes earlier, Penn Yan had switched goalies, and had eighth grader, Brandon Maciejewski in his first Varsity outing. The Penn Yan goal sent the game into running time, but only technically, as Livonia sophomore attackman, Wyatt Struble stopped the clock for the Bulldogs with his goal scored at 4:22, after receiving the ball from senior attackman Mike Donals, he sent a hard outside shot into the upper right corner. Wester finished the scoring for the day with a bounce shot goal at 2:24.
