May 15, 2009 - Aquinas took their second "solo" win of the GRALL Championship with a 13-7 win over McQuaid Jesuit and Livonia took third with a 10-6 win over Bath. Canandaigua beat Newark 20-3 in Finger Lakes action.
Aquinas 13 - McQuaid Jesuit 7
-- Aquinas dominated McQuaid Jesuit to take their second GRALL solo-championship since the league's beginnings. Aquinas won the Championship the first year and was co-champion with McQuaid Jesuit three years ago. This is their second title. The Little Irish won 13-7 and led 12-3 after three quarters.
McQuaid Jesuit scored one goal in each of the first three quarters, with Aquinas scoring three goals in the first, six in the second and three in the third. In the fourth quarter the Knights outscored the Little Irish 4-1. Both teams were relatively close on ground balls with Aquinas taking the slight 36-35 lead. Leading for Aquinas were Mike Messina (7), Klay Heston (4), Anthony Starnino (4) and Kraig Heston (4). The Knights were led by Nick Wolak (4) and Clark Hadley (4).
In the cage, Kraig Heston played the majority of the game for the Little Irish and finished with 13 saves (68%). Brandon Hall played for a period in the fourth, however, was taken out after getting a penalty (Heston finished the game). Hall finished with 1 save and 1 goal against. For McQuaid Jesuit, Ethan Matteson played the first half and Pat Sheridan played the second half. Matteson finished with four saves and Sheridan finished with 5 saves.
Scoring for Aquinas were Klay Heston (4g-2a), Anthony Bianchi (1g-3a), Austin Gorman (2g-2a), Mike Messina (3g), Brandon Hall (1g), Bernard Gauthier (1g) and Cameron Corsaro (1g).
Scoring for McQuaid Jesuit were Nick Wolak (2g-1a), James Sturnick (2g), Alex Pochodylo (1g), Tim Caton (1g), Marty Corcoran (1g), Chris Barilla (1a) and John Jenkins (1a).

Livonia 10 - Bath 6
-- The game was close for three quarters, with Livonia coming out in the end with a 10-6 win over Bath in the conciliation game for the GRALL Championship. Livonia won the first and second quarters by one goal and both teams only scored one goal in the third quarter. Near the end of the game the Bulldogs came out strong and outscored the Rams 4-2.
The Rams assisted all six of their goals for the game. Bath scored the first goal with Zach Reed assisting Tyler Reed. Tyler Reed was the leading scorer for the Rams with 3g. Livonia added the next two goals with scoring from Chris Bausch and Mike Donals (both unassisted). Bausch scored with a drive all the way around the cage and an inside shot from GLE. Donals scored on an outside side-arm shot. The score was 2-1 Livonia after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Bath once again scored the opening goal (tying the game at 2-2). The Rams' Nick Rossi scored only 16 seconds into the quarter (with Zach Reed assisting again). Rossi scored off a slow face-off win, pushing the ball from the Livonia restraining line after Brent Harrison picked up the ground ball on the face-off. Harrison led the Rams in ground balls with eight (including four on the face-off wing).
Livonia scored the next three goals to take the first demonstrative lead of the game. Donals added two more and Matt Girolmo scored his lone goal (assists from Chris Bausch and Jeff Wester). Girolmo's goal was scored on a fast-break when he and Wester both stopped about halfway between the restraining line and the goal and fired a hard shot of a feed. Bath scored the final goal of the first half with Tyler Reed scoring after a pass from Cole Beebe. The score was 5-3 at the end of the first half.
Each team scored one goal in the third quarter with Livonia scoring theirs first and in extra-man offense. Jeff Wester scored with an assist from Mike Donals with just a regular outside shot. During the third quarter Zach Reed was injured and had to be helped off the field by the training staff (he returned later in the fourth quarter). Only 6 seconds after restarting play the Rams scored their goal. Tyler Reed scored with an assist from Andy Nesbitt. The score was 6-4 after three quarters.
In the fourth quarter the Bulldogs came out swinging and scored the first four goals of the half to take a 10-4 lead with 3:40 remaining. The last two goals (3:09 and 0:27) were scored by Bath but it wasn't enough coming down the stretch. Nick Rossi and Mark Martuscello both scored for the Rams (with Drew Wager and Rossi assisting).
In the cage, Justin Becker played nearly the entire game for the Bulldogs and finished with 11 saves (65%). Ethan Jamison filled in for a one-minute penalty from Becker, but didn't face a shot. Chris Wolfer played the entire game for the Rams and finished with13 saves (56%). Wolfer made a number of strong saves early in the game to keep the game close through the first three quarter.
Girolmo and Wester both finished the game with 10 ground balls for Livonia with Becker adding 6 of his won. The Bulldogs won the ground ball battle 50-34 and it was a key to their victory.

Scoring for Bath were Tyler Reed (3g), Nick Ross (2g-1a), Zach Reed (2a), Mark Martuscello (1g), Drew Wager (1a), Cole Beebe (1a) and Andy Nesbitt (1a).

Canandaigua 20 - Newark 3
-- Canandaigua had sixteen different players on the scorebook in their 20-3 game against Newark in a Finger Lakes D-1 game at Evans Field. The Braves scored twelve unanswered goals in the first quarter and led at the half 15-1.
Scoring for Canandaigua were Deven Alves (2g), Tanner Scharr (1g-3a), Brian Scheetz (3g), Marshall Johnson (2g-1a), Tom LaCrosse (1g), Will Johnson (2a), Matt Smith (1g), Evan Burley (1g), Sean Regan (1g-1a), Brandon Thomson (3g), Jordan Reals (1g-1a), Adam Knapton (2g-1a), Adam Fingar (11), Sam Post (1g), John Klein (1a), Chris Tauterouff (1g-2a). Nick King played 16 minutes and made 4s/0ga. Anthony Deleo played 8 minutes made 2s/1ga and John Klein played the 2nd half and made 4s/2ga for the Braves.
John Gonzalez scored 2g and Albert Zaho added 1g for Newark. Dom Camblin played 3 quarters and made 6s/18ga and Nate Gardner played the final quarter and made 3s/2ga for the Reds.

(May 14, 2009) - Webster Schroeder was a 12-8 winner over Penfield and Waterloo beat Bloomfield-Honeoye 12-11 in overtime as the two winners were joined by twelve others at the regular season starts to run down. Victor won an 11-10 game with Eastridge and Newark beat Mynderse 13-9. The rest of the games with runaways, many in running time.
