Penfield led the game with goals from Kevin Westcott and Tucker Nelson (and assists from Nelson and James Dwyer). The Patriots scored both goals within 20 seconds (9:08 and 8:49). The Patriots held the lead throughout the first quarter, and ending the quarter 2-0.

In the second quarter, the Panthers held the Patriots scoreless, while scoring three of their own. The Panthers looked to Thomas Rodenhouse, James Purpura and Alex Kober to score the three goals. James Burke assisted the first goal. The Panthers had a 3-2 lead going into halftime.

After halftime, the Panthers continued their strong play, scoring the first goal of the quarter with TJ Iuppa scoring the first of his two goals. Iuppa took 18 shots in today's game but only hit the cage four times (22%). However, of those four shots, two were goals. Penfield added two more before the quarter expired to tied the game again at 4-4. Gian Maggio and Jordan O'Brien scored for the Patriots (and Nelson added his second assist). O'Brien's goal was scored during extra man offense.

pen-pittPittsford came out strong again scoring two quick goals in the opening of the fourth quarter at 10:40 and 9:04. Iuppa added his second (assisted by Rodenhouse) then Rodenhouse added his second (assisted by Iuppa). The Panthers led 6-4 and attempted to slow down the play to retain possession. The Patriots, however, scored three goals in the last 4:53 to come back for the win.

Kyle Van Thof added his first of two late in the game assists, with a feed to Dwyer for the first goal. Dwyer then found Westcott for the second goal. The final Patriot goal was scored by Nelson (with Van Thof's second assist) with only 2:07 remaining in the game. Pittsford's Justin McLiverty had a last steal to give the Panthers one more shot at offense, however, another steal from Penfield's Alex Sitton ended the Panther's chances.

Rush-Henrietta 7 - Hilton 7

special  --  Rush-Henrietta played a strong and consistent four quarters, while Hilton only played three. That was rh-hiltall R-H needed, winning by one goal 7-6 over the visiting Cadets. The Royal Comets outscored the Cadets 4-1 in the second and third quarters combined; holding the Cadets to only four shots (none on cage) in the third quarter.

Hilton scored first with a drive from the top of the cage by Matt Fracassi. RH's first goal, scored by Joe Perkins, was scored during a fast-break situation where Mark Mattiacio pushed the ball down the right side to Perkins. Perkins finished with 2g-2a for the Royal Comets. Hilton's Jimmy Gaffney, scored the final goal of the first quarter with 0:44 remaining. Gaffney drove straight in from the right side of the goal and with a hard side-arm shot, put the ball into the upper corner. Hilton led 2-1 after the first quarter.

The Royal Comets scored the next two goals in the second quarter to take the 3-2 lead. Torry Whitcher and Chris Aycock scored. After a flag down, RH worked the ball around in hopes of getting a shot off. Perkins had the ball around GLE on the right side of the field and looked to the center of the field for Chris Aycock. The pass from Perkins was too high for Aycock, however, Aycock tipped the ball so as to try and keep it in play. Whitcher stepped up and caught the ball; rocketing it into the corner for the goal. The latter RH goal was scored with a cross feed from Mattiacio during the man-up that came from the initial penalty. rh-hiltHilton scored their lone goal of the second quarter also during man-up. Steve Bernsten came around from behind the cage and passed the ball to Mike Crumlish at about 10 yards out; after a slide, Crumlish looked back to Bernsten who was open on the crease for the goal. The score was tied 3-3 at halftime.

The third quarter was the defining quarter of the game. Hilton was held to four shots, all off cage; only three ground balls; lost both face-offs; and was only 50% at clears. R-H began with the ball after a late penalty in the second quarter and they used it to their advantage, scoring only 13 seconds into the second half. The Royal Comets' Jake Alvarez scored, with an assist from Perkins. R-H took a total of eight shots in the third quarter with 5 on cage and two goals. The second R-H goal was scored by Aycock, unassisted. R-H led 5-3 after three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, Hilton started to come back. The Cadets scored the first two goals of the quarter to tie the game at 5-5 with 5:43 remaining. Gaffney scored the first goal unassisted with a side-arm shot from outside during a flag-down situation (the penalty was waved off). The second goal came from a feed from the right side by Crumlish to Bernsten. R-H scored the next two goals within 1:10 of the last Hilton goal. The first game 27 seconds later when, after calling a time out, the Royal Comets cleared the ball straight up the field and caught the Cadets out of position for the goal (Perkins from Aycock). R-H then scored again at 4:32 with Perkins feeding Mattiacio for his lone goal of the game. With 4:32 remaining the Cadets kept pushing. After subbing onto the field, David Smith caught the ball about 10 yards outside the box and never stopped running until the ball was in the back of the net. The Cadet had a number of opportunities more, however they could not capitalize. The Royal Comets ran out the last bit of time for the win.

Overall, the game was slow moving as both teams took massive amounts of time off the clock before even attempting to go to the cage. The game had long periods of drawn out passing, interspersed with periods of quick back to back action. Goals seemed to come in sets, as did turnovers; with one team controlling the ball for a rh-hiltwhile, then both teams repeatedly loosing the ball and running up and down the field.

Both goalies played exceptionally. Ken Stiles, of Hilton, finished with13 saves (65%) and Matt Gladstone, of R-H, finished with 10 saves (63%). Both goalies made of number of point blank saves, and kept their respective teams in the game. Face-offs were a 50-50 split with Brad Sauln, of R-H, finished 8/16 and Gaffney, of Hilton, finishing 7/14.

Sauln (8) and Perkins (4) led in ground balls for RH; with Gaffney (6), Bernsten (4), Fracassi (4) and Crumlish (4) leading for Hilton. There was a significant difference in shooting; RH hit the cage 71% of the time while Hilton only hit the cage 48%. With the relative similar numbers from the goalies, and relative similar number of shots (28-33 Hilton), the amount that the goalie had to face played an important role.

Scoring for R-H were Aycock (2g-2a), Perkins (2g-2a), Mattiacio (1g-2a), Whitcher (1g), Alvarez (1g).

Scoring for Hilton were Gaffney (2g), Bernsten (2g), Crumlish (2a), Fracassi (1g) and Smith (1g).
