April 6, 2009 - Riley Austin played the first half in the goal and had a hand in all four goals in the fourth quarter to stage a comeback 10-8 win for Eastridge over the Greece Thunder (Ath/Ody). Midlakes won a 13-5 victory over Batavia.
The Thomas at Canisius will be rescheduled.
Midlakes 13 - Batavia 5
-- It was Midlakes over Batavia 13-5 in a game held at Waterloo. Midlakes wasted no time lighting up the scoreboard by scoring four goals in the first 3:48 of the game. On the scoring run was Tyler Brooks-Lambert who put in a goal and an assist in the run. Batavia responded going on a three goal run of it's own with goals by Chip Chapman, Joe Pedro and Kyle Maniace.
The Eagles outscored the Blue Devils 8-0 in the second and third quarters. "The conditions were wet and cold; they flat out hustled us," said Batavia Coach Chuck Hammon.
Batavia committed seven penalties but held Midlakes extra man team to two goals. Midlakes, however held the Blue Devils scoreless on their four tries. Batavia Goalie Theo Hill played well with 18 saves. Eight of the thirteen goals scored by Midlakes were within eight yards or less. Likewise, Midlakes goalie Tucker Jensen made several point blank saves which were critical in the win. Tyler Brooks-Lambert of Midlakes controlled the face off winning the majority of 18 of 21 face offs won by Midlakes.
"They are a very good team for their third year at Varsity," commented Midlakes Coach Rick Doan. "I expect they will continue to improve over the rest of season."
Scoring for Midlakes were Tyler Brooks-Lambert (3g-2a), Nick Judge (2g-2a), Tom Cheney (3g-1a), Ben Uveges 3g-1a, Matt Barilla (1g-2a), Cory Gray (1g) and Mike Newland (1a). Tucker Jensen had 8s/5ga while playing the first 45 minutes and Michael Iannone made 2s/0ga to finish the game for the Eagles (2-0).
Scoring for the Blue Devils were Will Mulcahy (2g), Joe Pedro (1g,1a), Kyle Maniace (1g), Chip Chapman (1g) and Joe Muoio (1a). Batavia Goalie Theo Hill had 18s/13ga.
Eastridge 10 - Greece Ath/Ody 8
-- Eastridge had their first win of the season with four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to finish with a score of 10-8. After a 0-0 first quarter, the Thunder scored the first three goals in the second quarter. Eastridge rallied with three of their own to tie the game 3-3 at the half.In the third quarter The Thunder outscored Eastridge 5-3 but the last quarter belonged to the Lancers as Riley Austin was in on all four goals as he scored three goals and an assist in the fourth.
Scoring for Eastridge were Curtis Scott (1a), Patrick Moynihan (2g-1a), Riley Austin (4g-2a), Adam Sisson (3g-1a), Trevor Horne (2a), Joe Mortillaro (1g), and Kevin Stapleton (1a). Adding to his successful day, Riley Austin played the first half of the game in the goal for the Lancers, recording 10s/3ga. Sophomore middie Joe Mortillaro stepped up and played in the net in the second half and made 5s/5ga for the Lancers (1-3).
Scoring for the Greece Thunder (Ath/Ody) were Derek Langdon (1g-1a), Nate Wallenhorst (1g-4a), Phil Bond (3g-1a), Eric Bodine (1a), Tyler Gorgione (1g), Mason Rosso (2g) and Tyler LePore (1a). Sophomore goalie Zack Rudgers had 9s/10ga for the Thunder (1-1).
Corning West 11 - HFL 3
-- Corning West outshot HFL 26-11 on their way to an 11-3 home filed victory. West started with a 2-1 first quarter and led at the half 5-2.
Scoring for Honeoye Falls-Lima were Mickey Allan (1g), Jeff Roth (1g), Tommy O'Leary (1g), Alex Moyer (1a) and Freddy Kaksonsen (1a). Jordan Gushue won 7 of 10 face offs and goalie Jay Tallon recorded 18s/11ga for the Cougars.
