Once again this year, SportsFive will publish, each week, rankings in each class. SportsFive will continue to publish the New York State Sportswriters poll and will provide links to the Laxpower national polls.

As we are just getting into the season, there were very few changes from last week's "preseason list".

CLASS A
The top three positions remain unchanged this week. Thomas (2-0) played a good game with Penfield and also won a game earlier against Gates Chili. They will face Canisius on Monday, Rush-Henrietta on Thursday and Aquinas on Saturday. Canisius beat McQuaid Jesuit (14-7) early in the season. Aquinas is 4-0.

Fairport (3-0) has had dominant wins against HFL (19-5), Victor (15-3) and Niagara Wheatfield (18-4). They will face Pittsford on Tuesday and Churchville-Chili on Thursday.

Schroeder (2-1) lost on Saturday to Penn Yan (9-3) but previously defeated Victor and Eastridge. Their only game this week will be against Gates Chili on Tuesday.

Last week we had Pittsford, Churchville-Chili and Gates Chili is an honorable mention teams. They settled the issue last week as Churchville beat Gates (9-8) and Pittsford beat Churchville-Chili (6-5), but the scores demonstrate how close these teams are.

CLASS B
In Class B, Canandaigua (0-1) and Irondequoit (3-1) remain in one and two respectively. Although the Eagles have played more games, Canandaigua's loss was to Orchard Park in a one goal game, won at the buzzer. Irondequoit counters with a close loss to West Genesee and has won games against McQuaid Jesuit (12-4), Penfield (11-6) and Hilton 8-6). CA plays their only game of the week against Penn Yan on Thursday. Irondequoit plays Pittsford on Thursday.

We have added Brighton (3-0) to the Honorable Mention list with wins this year, which is three more than they won last year and is giving the Barons an exciting start.

CLASS C
There are no changes this week in Class C. Penn Yan (1-0) beat Schroeder last week and will play Waterloo on Tuesday and Canandaigua (away) on Thursday. Geneva (1-0) lost in a close one to a strong Corning West team (8-7). They play Newark and Waterloo this week.

Bath (3-1) and Livonia (3-0) remain on the Honorable Mention list.

GAMES THIS WEEK

There are a lot on non-league games this week, but given the forecast for snow it is likely that many may have to be rescheduled. Watch the home page each day for notices of cancellations.

Among the interesting games this week are Batavia/Midlakes on Monday and Bath/Aquinas, Pittsford/Fairport and Marcus Whitman/B-H on Tuesday. Pal-Mac/Livonia, Fairport/C-C, Pittsford/Irondequoit are interesting match ups on Thursday and Thomas/Aquinas will be interesting on Saturday. The best game of the week might just be Penn Yan and Canandaigua on Thursday (Evans Field). There is a strong rivalry between these two team, and the players always seem to care just a little bit more.
