Saturday: Penn Yan, Aquinas, Fairport, Midlakes Win
 -  It was another raw and wet day for games today. The HFL-Hamburg game was postponed (no date yet), but Fairport beat visiting Niagara Wheatfield (Section 6), Penn Yan beat Webster Schroeder, Midlakes beat Waterloo and Aquinas beat Pittsford in the games that did take place.
  

 

Fairport 18 - Niagara Wheatfield 4

 -- Fairport started the second half in running time, defeating Niagara Wheatfield (Section 6) 18-4. The Raiders scored nine unanswered goals, including eight in the first quarter.

Niagara Wheatfield scored with 6:06 and 5:28 remaining in the second quarter. The first goal was scored by Pierce Abrams. Abrams picked up the ball in the center of the restraining box and fired a hard underhand shot that scored on Kris Sterzin. Sterzin finished with 2 saves and 2 goals against for the Red Raiders. The second goal was scored by Mo Bissell and assisted by Kyle Henry. The goal was scored during one of three extra man opportunities the Falcons had.

Niagara Wheatfield scored one goal in the third quarter with Joe Ditto scoring with a straight drive down the left side. Fairport added three goals in the third quarter with Brendan Saylor and Chris Button hooking up for the first goal on broken clear. Saylor and Button led all scoring: Button had 6g-1a and Saylor had 5g-3a. Connor Lowe scored the second goal of the quarter. Chris Benza and James Manilla scored the final Red Raider goal of the quarter with a pass across the crease.

In the fourth quarter each team scored one goal. Ditto added his second goal for the Falcon's and Henry added his second assist. The goal was scored after a broken clear. With 0:03 remaining in the game, Derek DeJoe and Tim Modesti scored on a fast-break play for Fairport.

At the face-off Mike Lehmann dominated for the Red Raiders, winning 18/23 draws (78%). Lehmann also led in ground balls with eight: Andrew Kristy (6), Button (4) and Martin Manilla (4) also led. Chris Reed had two takes for Fairport.

Leading ground balls for the Falcons were Abrams (6), Ditto (3) and Matt Sosenko (3). Abrams also had two takes for Niagara Wheatfield. In the cage, Pat Lunderman started for the Falcons and finished the game with 7 saves and 10 goals against. Lunderman played the first five minutes of the game (0 saves and 6 goals against) as well as the second half (7 saves and 3 goals against - 70%). Julian Fauzey finished the first half and ended with 5 saves and 8 goals against.

Scoring for Fairport were Brendan Saylor (5g-3a), Chris Button (6g-1a), Martin Manilla (2g-5a), Connor Lowe (2g), Chris Benza (1g), Timothy Cook (1g), Derek DeJoe (1g), Aaron Jones (1a), James Manilla (1a), Paul Dancy (1a), Tim Modesti (1a) and Andrew Hays (1a). Kyle Hall played the second half for the Red Raiders and finished with 5 saves and 2 goals against (71%).

Scoring for Niagara Wheatfield were Joe Ditto (2g), Kyle Henry (2a), Pierce Abrams (1g) and Mo Bissell (1g).

Penn Yan 9 - Schroeder 3 

 --  Schroeder led at the end of the first quarter, but after that it was Penn Yan in charge before winning a 9-3 victory at home.

Mustang Senior midfielder John Linnan was the first to score, at 7:54, but Chris Mason scored his unassisted goal at 6:53 and then assisted on a goal by Brett Farrell to get the Warriors a 2-1 first quarter lead.

Senior Matt Osgood scored an unassisted goal early in the second quarter and sophomore Anthony Luppino scored with an assist from junior Adam Trombley late in the quarter giving the Mustangs a 3-2 lead going into the half time break.

The second half saw one more goal by Schroeder (Pete Noto, unassisted) while Penn Yan added the last five goals.

Scoring for Penn Yan were Adam Trombley (3a), Cole Castle (3g), Matt Osgood (2g), Anthony Luppino (1g), John Linnan (2g-2a) and Nate Nichols (1g). Ethan Kamholtz had 11s and Cody Richardson added 1s for the Mustangs.

Scoring for Schroeder were Chris Mason (1g-1a), Pete Noto (1g), Brett Farrell (1g). Junior goalie Scott Tota had 7s/9ga for the Warriors.

Aquinas 3 - Pittsford 2

updated --  Aquinas scored a single unanswered goal in the first quarter and two more before the half on their way to 3-2 win over visiting Pittsford. The Panthers scored one in the third quarter and one more the the fourth.

Scoring for Aquinas were Cameron Corsaro (1g), Anthony Bianchi (1g), and Bernard Gauthier (1g). Senior goalie Kraig Heston had 27s/2ga for AQ (4-0).

Scoring for Pittsford were James Purpura (1g) and Matt Gold (1g). Harry Goluses had 15s/3ga for the Panthers (3-1).
  

Midlakes 9 - Waterloo 3

 --  Midlakes scored three goals in each of the first two quarters, ending the half up 6-2 on their way to a 9-3 win over visiting Waterloo. The weather was cold and wet for the game, making even the most simple task so much harder. Coach Rich Doan was pleased with the way his team handled the situation. "I'm really proud of these kids for playing so hard under these conditions." Midlakes takes on Batavia on Monday.

Scoring for Midlakes were Cory Gray (2g), Matt Barilla (2g), Ben Uveges (1g-2a), Tyler Brooks-Lambert (1g-2a), Nick Judge (1g-2a) and Justin Huntsman (1g-2a). Sophomore goalie Tucker Jensen had 9s/3ga for the Eagles (1-0).

 -- The game was cancelled due to weather issues and will be rescheduled.
