The NCAA manual, based on the work of Dolye Smith is the first time there has been a written "standard" for lacrosse statistics. "There are some surprises in the Manual," said Paul Wilson, who lead the clinic. "In a few minor cases, we will need to record things differently from the way we have recorded them in the past, but now we have a definitive reference. It is a great first effort by the NCAA Committee."

The attendees heard about ethics in record keeping, reviewed definitions, and learned how to used data collection sheets to "created an accurate record" of what takes place.

Wilson and co-presenter, Kyle Barrett were pleased with the turnout. "For our first try, it was great to get together with people who care about the stats," said Barrett. "I think is was a success, and I'm sure it will get better as we do it a few more times."

Wilson added, "There was a challenge, as the group included people who ranged from freshmen in High School to adults with many years of experience. The level of maturity, however was noticeable. Everyone was involved in discussions, particularly when we were presenting "Approved Rulings", which can get complicated."
