Thursday - Island over Western 14-12
 -  Long Island opened up with a hard fought victory over Western. The game was a game of streaks with the Island having a streak of four and one of eight while Western had two streaks of four and one of three.

LI-WesternMatt Springer scored the first goal with an assist from Drew Coholan on a fast-break after Sean Regan stripped the ball on defense. Springer and Coholan played exceedingly well in the game and combined for 6g-3a. After scoring the first goal, Long Island immediately came back and scored on the ensuing face-off only 0:10 later. Froccaro, who was 7/7 at the draw in the first half, won the face-off and passed the ball up to the attack. After three quick, crisp, cross-cage passes, Nicky Galasso scored with a feed from Matthew Palasek.

Long Island kept up the pressure with three more cross-crease, inside passes on the next three goals. Thomas Schreiber found Palasek, Nick O`Reilly found Galasso and Ian Braddish found William Manny. Long Island was up 4-1 with 2:16 remaining in the first and showed no signs of stopping. However, Springer had different plans as he scored on a pass from Mitch Keefer to the crease. The first quarter ended with Long Island leading 4-2.

Western kept up the pressure while scoring three unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a 5-4 lead going into halftime. Springer scored the first goal from a broken clear by Coholan. Coholan then passed the ball across to Springer. Nick Scalzo and Kyle Van Thof teamed up for the next goal as Van Thof won the face-off and found Scalzo on the left side of the cage 0:08 later. The final goal of the first half came as the ball was passed in the area of Coholan in the middle of the field above the crease. Coholan quick stepped towards to ball and in one motion, picked it up and fired it at the cage for the goal. Western took the one goal lead into the half.LI-Western

The third quarter was all Long Island as they scored 8 goals and held Western scoreless for over 16 minutes. The opening face-off was a face-break goal as Steven Murphy won the draw and took the ball all the way himself for the goal. Ian Braddish scored the next goal with a dropped shoulder side-arm from outside followed by Michael Chapman making what seemed to be an impossible catch from William Manny and finding the back of the cage. With 7:30 remaining, defenseman Bradley Cappellini cleared the ball and went straight to the goal with a hard over the shoulder shot that found the back of the net.

Another defensive player based goal came as Michael McCormack picked up the ball from a bad pass at his own restraining line and took the ball the whole way down the field only to pass it off to Chapman on the crease for yet another Long Island goal. English, Schreiber, and Murphy added goals to give Long Island a commanding 12-5 lead going into the final quarter.

However, Western was not going to quit and scored seven goals of their own in the final quarter while holding Island to two goals (one within the last 0:19). Western`s first goal came in a crazy series. A flag went down for a Long Island slash, Nick Scalzo then took a hard shot at the cage which was caught by Mitch Keefer on the crease. (It was going to miss the cage, but he was above GLE on the crease). Keefer then fired a second shot, which missed the cage high. However, behind the cage, Springer caught the ball before it went out of bounds or touched the ground. Spring drove to the crease and passed it off to Jeff Tundo for the goal and the penalty. Western also capitalized on the penalty with a face-off fast-break 0:12 later and with Pete Noto winning the face-off and scoring. Only 0:15 after that, Western scored again when, after a long drawn out face-off Coholan picked up the ball and pushed it up and found the back of the net. Only 0:22 after that Long Island was back on the crease with their own feed to a cutting attackman as Chapman hit Palasek for the goal. Within 0:49 there were four goals scored. The score was 13-8 Island.

LI-WesternWestern scored the next four goals to bring the game within one goal (13-12). Van Thof scored during man-up with a feed from John Duvnjak. With 2:18 remaining, Tundo found Matt Tobia on the crease for another Western goal. Again, Western scored on a slow face-off unsettled break. After another slow face-off, Coholan picked up the ball and did the work to put the ball in the back of the net to bring Western within two goals with 2:00 remaining in the fourth. The final Western goal was scored as Clay Del Prince stripped the ball and Ethan Murphy picked up the loose ball and took the ball coast to coast to score and bring the game within one goal.

With 0:19 remaining in the game, Galasso scored the final goal to increase the Long Island lead with a strong drive from a slow decided face-off.

Western scored on two of three man-up attempts. In the cage, three of the goalies had difficulties. Rob Bellairs played the first half with only 1s/5ga and Ryan Zaremba played the second half with 3s/7ga for Long Island. For Western, Jon Lawless played the first three quarters with a final tally of 4s/12ga (2s/4ga in the first two quarters). Scott Tota played the fourth quarter and had a strong performance with 5s/2ga.
