Friday - Central-11 Over Western-8
 -  Western started the scoring with a goal from Joe Resetarits (assisted by Kyle VanThof) at 7:07 but the first three shots that Central took each resulted in a goal. The first, Rob Grimm from Zac Guy, was scored after a cross-crease pass. The ensuing face-off found defenseman Jake Smith picking up the ground ball and running it straight to the cage for a face-off fast-break goal only 0:09 later. The third goal was scored by Mike Fetterly (assisted by Tim Rommel) on another cross-crease feed.

Central had a 3-1 lead with 4:38 left in the first quarter but Western fought back and recorded two of their own before the end of the first quarter to tie the score going into the first break. Casey Rich (from Cade Norris) and Matt Pierotti (from Mitch Keefer) scored the two goals for Western and continued then attack-based offense for Western.

Western’s Jeff Tundo, assisted by Joe Resetarits, scored on a extra-man opportunity only 0:20 into the second quarter (after retaining possession). Western took back the lead for the second time at 4-3.

Eight minutes went by before Central scored again, but the last three shots of the quarter were each goals for Central. The first two, coming at 2:28 and 1:48, were scored by Guy and assisted by Grimm on cross-crease passes. Before Central became too used to being in the lead, Western’s Pierotti scored again (assisted by Norris) to retie the score at 5-5. With only 0:07 remaining in the half, Central scored on a fast break as Steve Ianzito found the back of the net. Central took a 6-5 lead into the half.

Adding to their 6-5 lead, Central’s Grimm and Guy hooked up for anther goal at 5:06 in the third quarter, followed by Guy (unassisted) at 3:55. Norris scored the lone Western goal of the quarter with 3:17 remaining, but Central increased their lead to two goals at the end of the third quarter. Western had a late extra-man opportunity and used it to gain possession for the second time in the game.

Western could not capitalize on their extra-man opportunity. Central scored the first three goals of the last quarter and extended their lead to 11-6 before Western scored their final two goals of the game. Guy (unassisted), Fetterly (from Guy) and Greely (unassisted) all scored before 2:46 remaining in the game. Greely’s goal came after he picked up a ground ball on the crease. With 1:22 remaining Rich scored an unassisted goal. Joe Resetarits scored the final goal of the game for Western (assisted by Keefer) at 0:33.

Central’s Mike Poppleton finished the game winning 14/18 face-offs and giving Central a clear edge in that department.

In the cage both teams played one goalie for the entire game. Central’s AJ Fiore faced 13 shots and recorded 5 saves (39%) while Western’s Scott Bement faced 16 shots and only stopped 5 saves (31%).

In the first two games Central relied on a strong single quarter performance to beat their opponents but in this game that was not true. Instead on relying on a single quarter or time period the Central team looked to a single player who scored on 7 of their 11 goals. Guy finished the game with 7 points (4 goals and 3 assists) which is more then any other player in a single game so far during the Games.
