Rules Changes for 2007

All games played in the section are governed by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) 2007 Boys Lacrosse Rules Book. Every coach should have a copy of the rules book and should be familiar with the rules. The book is available for $6.95 but members of the coaches’ branch of US Lacrosse receive the book as a benefit. New York State makes changes in the rules from time to time. There are a number significant rule change for the 2007 season. The full text can be found in the download section of SportsFive.net. Here is the synopsis of the rule changes:

Rule 1-6-2      The required guard stop at the throat of the crosse must be a minimum of 10 inches from the outside edge of the head to the farthest unexposed edge of the stop.
  
Rule 4-3 Possession of the ball at the end of a quarter with a flag down restarts at the same location.
  
Rule 4-5-9 Defines a "shot" and when a shot ends.
  
Rule 4-6-3-b Defines procedures for when a ball goes out of bounds on a face-off.
  
Rule 4-9-J and I Defines when a goal should be disallowed.
  
Rule 4-14 Twenty seconds to move the ball from defense to offense is defined.
  
Rule 4-29 States where the ball should be restarted after a stop in action.
  
Rule 5-11-1-d Moves note of taunting from rule 5-9.
  
Rule 5-9-1-d,e,f Moves the note on penalties for Unsportsmanlike conduct to the end of the section.
  
Rule 5-13-1, 2 and 3 Rewrites the section on Correction of Errors to state what happens if there may be a misapplication of a rule or an inadvertent whistle.
