Game
4: Hudson Valley-10 vs Central-6 |
Last week, most
people studying the rosters would have
predicted that Central’s depth
in the midfield, and their experienced
defense would be enough to beat Hudson
Valley in round two, it certainly was
not the case as the Valley dominated
for more than 29 minutes into the game.
Attackman Jay Lucus (Fox Lane) scored the
first goal of the game (unassisted) for
HV just 52 seconds into the game with what
is the most common type of goal scored
in the games; the one-one-one drive from
front left. The game turned to transition
as neither team scored for four minutes,
after which Central’s Jack Venditti
scored the tying goal on a pass from John
Greeley.
At 4:37 Robbie Bosco scored on a pass from
Chris Bocklet in man up and started a run
in which Hudson Valley scored six more
goals before Central scored their next
goal in the third quarter. The first quarter
ended with Valley up 2-1.
HV scored three unanswered goals in the
second quarter. Attackman Brian Douglass
(John Jay) scored the first with a feed
from Kevin Stockel (also John Jay) in man
up. Stockel scored the next goal (assisted
by Bocklet) and Stockel scored the last
goal of the half on a feed from Bocklet
in man up. Hudson Valley took a 5-1 lead
into the halftime break.
In the third quarter Douglas scored again
with a feed from Bocklet at 11:09, this
time on a full field clear. Stockel’s
goal (assisted by Bosco) gave HV a 7-1
lead until Jack Harmatuk scored on a Tim
Rommel feed to break Central’s dry
spell at 7:13. Central scored another goal
when Nick Blumer picked up a loose ground
ball in the front of the crease and hit
the nets at 1:45. Douglass ended the third
with an unassisted goal at 0:51 for HV
who led at the end of three quarters with
a score of 8-3.
Although Central made an effort to recover
in the last quarter, the scoring was back
and forth with Central scoring first with
a man up goal by Josh Amidon (assisted
by Tim Desko). Stockel responded with another
goal and a feed from Bocklet. Central returned
with Nick Lococo’s score (assisted
by Venditti) and HV took it’s turn
with a Douglass from Bocklet combo. Central
scored the last goal of the game (Lococo
from Greeley).
The combination of Bocklet (6a), Douglass
(4g) and Stockel (4g-1a) was just too much
for Central today. West Genesee star goalie,
John Galloway produced only 3 saves while
allowing 6 goals (33%) but Ben Stoker (Oswego)
helped Central with 5s/4ga for a 55% day.
Cory Ender (Putnam Valley) made 12 saves
(6/ga) for a 67% day for Hudson Valley.
Central was also hurt by the lack of production
by their man up, who managed only 1 goal
on 7 opportunities. (HV was 3 for 9).
Scoring for Central were Amidon (1g), Blumer
(1g), Desko (1a), Greeley (2a), Karmatuk
(1g), Lococo (2g), Venditti (1g-1a). Desko
led the ground ball effort.
Scoring for Hudson Valley were Bocklet
(6a), Bosco (1g-1a), Douglass (4g), Lucas
(1g), Stockel (4g-1a). Bosco led in ground
balls with 5.
