The first game on Sunday
morning saw an intense New York City team
take Central into overtime, where Central’s
Jack Venditti scored the game winner with
an assist from Nick Lococo to give them a
13-12 win.
New York City, certainly the best team from that
area in tournament history, was still excited
about their well played game against Western
on Saturday and showed up at 7:15 am to warm
up for the 8:00 am game. Soccer needed to play
on the RIT turf field on Sunday and so lacrosse
was moved to the Stadium field. There was concern
that perhaps Central had gone to the wrong field,
when, at 7:45 they still had not arrived. They
did arrive, shortly thereafter and the game started
on time.
Central had no problem at the start of the game,
scoring the first five goals of the game and
taking a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Tim Desko started the offense with his assisted
goal from Jeremy Boltus at 8:35. Boltus then
scored with an assist from Jack Venditti and
at 4:16, Jovan Miller scored an unassisted goal.
Joel White scored at 1:30 on a pass from Nick
Lococo and Venditti added another at 0:51 on
a pass from Jack Harmatuk. New York City finally
got on the scoreboard with Max Vanboargondien
scored his unassisted goal with 24 seconds left
in the quarter, which ended with Central up 5-1.
With a major change in momentum, NYC scored the
next four goals to tie the game at five. Phil
Dimin started it off with an unassisted goal
at 9:57. Vanboargondien scored another unassisted
goal, this time in man up, at 6:29 and again
in man up at 6:07. Dimin scored another unassisted
goal at 2:49 before White scored again for Central
with an assist from Venditti, who scored the
next goal in man up and with a feed from Harmatuk,
giving Central a two goal advantage. The lead
was cut to one Dimin scored (unassisted) at 0:47
to end the half with Central up 7-6.
After the break, NYC took control of the game,
scoring the next three goals and capturing at
9-7 lead. Dimin tied the score with his assisted
goal (Nick Weaver) at 10:33. Vanboargondien scored
again, also assisted by Weaver and this time
in man up at 9:32 and Dimin scored his fourth
of the game, in man up and assisted by Vanboargondien
at 3:24. Josh Amidon scored for Central at 3:10
and Tim Desko added a goal (assisted by Lococo)
at 1:38 to end the quarter with the teams tied
at nine.
Central moved ahead on an unassisted goal by
Tim Rommel and advanced by two with a goal by
Lococo (assisted by Boltus) at 10:42. New York
City returned with an unassisted goal by Forrest
Sonnenfeldt. Lococo scored for Central (unassisted)
at 9:24 but Dimin scored his sixth goal at 4:57
and was followed by a goal by Anthony Adler at
1:38 who scored on a pass from Vanboargondien
to tie the game at twelve and end regulation.
At 3:21 in overtime, Venditti scored on an inside
feed from Lococo to win the game for Central,
giving them a 3-2 record in the tournament. New
York City ended with a 1-4 record.
