New York City, certainly the best team from that area in tournament history, was still excited about their well played game against Western on Saturday and showed up at 7:15 am to warm up for the 8:00 am game. Soccer needed to play on the RIT turf field on Sunday and so lacrosse was moved to the Stadium field. There was concern that perhaps Central had gone to the wrong field, when, at 7:45 they still had not arrived. They did arrive, shortly thereafter and the game started on time.

Central had no problem at the start of the game, scoring the first five goals of the game and taking a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. Tim Desko started the offense with his assisted goal from Jeremy Boltus at 8:35. Boltus then scored with an assist from Jack Venditti and at 4:16, Jovan Miller scored an unassisted goal. Joel White scored at 1:30 on a pass from Nick Lococo and Venditti added another at 0:51 on a pass from Jack Harmatuk. New York City finally got on the scoreboard with Max Vanboargondien scored his unassisted goal with 24 seconds left in the quarter, which ended with Central up 5-1.

Game 15: Western-13 vs HV-5
- Western secured the silver medal with a demonstrative 13-4 win over Hudson Valley, who earned the bronze medal in the final game at the RIT Stadium Field.
esg42
Going into the game, it was clear that Western needed to win by at least two goals in order to take the silver, based on the potential for a “circular tie” among teams with equal records who had beaten each other. The tie breaker involves “goals against” after looking at “record” and “head-to-head” competition. Central’s loss to Long Island (18-6) took them out of the running.

Western made their statement from the onset, scoring the first eight goals in the game and the talented Hudson Valley team simply could not keep up and never staged a come-back attempt. Canandaigua’s Charlie Sauter scored the first goal on a feed from Grant Catalino who finished the game with 3g-5a and was certainly one of the tournament’s most demonstrative players. About a minute later Mike Danylyshyn score the first of two in a row, both assisted by Catalino. Danylyshyn also stood out in the tournament and ended this game with 4g-2a. Michael White (Nichols) scored Western’s last goal of the quarter (assisted by Danylyshyn) at which point the score was 4-0.

The second quarter was much like the first with Western scoring four more. Adam Groot (Canandaigua) scored an unassisted goal at 10:32. Catalino scored (unassisted) at 8:19. Matt Pierotti (Corning East) scored a man up goal with help from Catalino and Carter Bloor added a goal less than a minute later (assisted by Groot). Hudson Valley scored their first goal of the game when Scott Kellman scored his unassisted goal at 3:45. The half ended with Western up 8-1.
esg44
The third quarter was dominated by transition and little scoring as both teams found it hard to get back in to the game after the halftime break, and after playing four and a half games in four days. Dom Scalzo scored first for Western (unassisted) at 7:59. HV saw an unassisted goal from Andrew Collins at 4:44 and Danylyshyn ended the third quarter scoring for Western at 3:45 with an assist from Catalino. The third quarter ended with Western up 10-2.

Both teams woke up in the fourth quarter, each scoring three goals. Irondequoit’s Kevin Coholan scored on a pass from Danylyshyn at 10:57 and HV returned with an unassisted goal by Jay Lucas (Fox Lane) at 10:15. Western came back at 9:29 with an unassisted goal by Danylyshyn. Catalino added another (assisted by Pierotti) in man up and Hudson Valley returned with a goal by Robbie Bosco (assisted by Kevin Stockel) at 3:09. Stockel scored the last game of the 2006 ESG tournament at 3:00 with his goal (assisted by Andrews Collins).

Matt Witko has 8 of 13 (66%) for Hudson Valley while Carter Bloor (Corning East) won 10/18 (56%) face offs for Western. HV goalie Corey Ender (Putnam Valley) made 9 saves while allowing 13 goals against (41%). Thomas Holden, playing about 19 minutes for Western recorded 3s/3ga (50%) and RJ Wickham, who played the rest of the game for Western has 4s/5ga (33%).
esg41 Scoring for Hudson Valley were Kellman (1g), Collins (1g-1a), Lucas (1g), Bosco (1g) and Stockel (1g-1a).

Scoring for Western were Sauter (1g), Danylyshyn (4g-2a), White (1g), Groot (1g-1a), Catalino (2g-5a), Pierotti (1g-1a), Bloor (1g), Scalzo (1g) and Coholan (1g).
