June 22, 2006 - The annual "last game of the year" for
graduating seniors was played at Irondequoit on
June 13th. Under a new format the seniors were
divided into two games this year to allow for more
seniors to play. Every effort was made to include
players for each of the thirty Section Five
teams, although end of the year scheduling made
it difficult for players to choose between the
many special events that take place in June.
The Class B and Class C teams played to a 12-11
final. In an unorthodox play, in the second quarter,
HFL defenseman, Connor Burgasser, playing for the "White
Team" checked
poke checked the stick out the hands of Andrew
Santiago (also from HFL) who was playing for the
Blue Team and
who had control of the ball. The ball remained
in the stick as it fell to the ground and after
a couple attempts to free the ball from the stick,
Burgasser simply dropped his own stick and picked
up the short stick, with the ball and ran toward
the goal. Was it a legal move? Probably not, but
the officials on the game were mixed in their opinions
and the game was for fun. Burgasser ended the game
with three goals and two assists for the White
Team and was named the MVP.
Dan Layfield (HF-L) scored three goals for the
White Team while Victor middie, Erick Rogemoser
scored four goals and added two assists for the
Blue Team. Andrew Santiago scored three goals and
