May 15, 2006 - The SportsFive Player
of the Week awards are out for week seven and
the winners this week were selected from a field
of fifty-eight nominees.
The Mike Barnard Sportsman of the Week is senior
defenseman Josh Lewis of Waterloo.
A player who is called, "a great kid on an
and off the field", Josh is a high honor
student who encourages his teammates, who plays
hard in every game and is very respectful to opposing
coaches, players and officials..
The Graphtex Offensive Player of the Week is awarded
to senior midfielder, Mike Arvan
of Penfield. Part of a strong offensive unit at
Penfield, Mike is one of the best offensive players
in the Section. Recently he scored 11g-5a in one
week in games with Irondequoit, Fairport and Pittsford.
He was instrumental in wins against Bishop Timon
and Binghamton and is one of the go-to guys for
the Patriots.
The Graphtex Defensive Player of the Week is awarded
to junior defenseman and Long Stick middie, Michael
Manley of Penn Yan. Although the Mustang
defense is full of talent, and a number have received
awards this year, few can doubt that Mike is one
of the best on-on-one defensemen to come out of
Section Five. His dramatic takes, and willingness
to go to the goal has helped Penn Yan throughout
this season. After winning the face off ground
ball in overtime this week, Mike took the ball
to the net and gave the Mustangs a 10-9 overtime
win against Canandaigua. |
