VICTOR
March
18,2006 - Victor was 4th in the Finger
Lakes-1 division last year (0-6) and finished
the year at 10-9 over all. Seeded 4th on the
Class B side of the B/C Tournament, they finished
4th after beating Eastridge (18-7) and then losing
to HFL (7-1).
The Blue Devils lost twelve
players to graduation including some key players
like attackmen Cory Benulis (Hartford) and Kyle
Rogemoser. Goalie Matt Schmelzlen is gone along
with midfielder Jon Hankin.
Senior defenseman Pat Sullivan
is back along with junior midfielder Eric Willman.
Newcomers include junior attackman Andy Savage and
sophomore middie Alex Rogemoser. Coach Foeder says
that depth in the midfield and defense will help
his team this year.
Victor was the weakest team in
FL-1 last year but the top of the division, Canandaigua
and Penn Yan, moved on to the State tournament. Geneva
was a good team last year, so it’s unfair to
say that the Blue Devils were weak; they were just
in a very tough division. Their 10-9 over all record
last year included some good wins against Sweet Home
and Aquinas. However that was last year and Victor
will still face a tough schedule including some challenging
out of league games with Amherst, CNS, Sweet Home
and Corning West. It is possible that Victor will
start off with some hard games before they find their
first win.
