WEBSTER
SCHROEDER
March
18,2006 - Webster Schroeder took third
in the Monroe County – 1 league last
year with a 7-5 league record and 12-7 over
all. Senior attackmen Jack Mooney and Tom
Costanza were named to the first team attack
list, while seniors Matt Crandall and Mark
Liberti were
named to the defense list. Mike Catalino
made the midfield list and was named to the
All America team.
In the Class A tournament, the
Warriors were seeded 4th and finished 4th with
wins against Gates Chili (14-1) and Irondequoit
(14-3), before losing to Penfield (15-9) in the
semi finals. Catalino was named to the All Tournament
team.
Schroeder lost ten seniors to graduation
and most of them saw a great deal of playing time
in 2005. Gone are Mooney (MCC) and Costanza (Geneseo)
in the attack and Catalino (Duke) in the midfield.
Also gone are defensemen, Jeremy Appell, Mark Liberti
(Hartford) and Matt Crandall (LeMoyne).
Junior midfielder Mike Barilla
will be out this season with an off season ACL injury
and will be greatly missed by the Warriors.
This year will be tougher for Schroeder
and they will need to stay healthy while the most
experienced athletes teach the younger ones. Senior
Dennis Costanza is a credible goalie and will be
helped by senior Chris Nicodemi and junior Drew Palmer,
but except for senior John Pawluk, the midfield may
be pretty thin. The attack will see the return of
junior Grant Catalino, and seniors Chris Ferry and
Jay Willmes which will allow the team to score points
when they can get the ball. Juniors Andy Winslow
(mid) and Tim Winslow (def) are up from JV and they
may help.
