PITTSFORD
March
18,2006 - Pittsford finished 5th in Monroe
County -1 last year with a 5-7 league record
and ended their season at 9-9. Coach Andrew Whipple,
in his first year with the Panthers, replaced
Coach Carmine Peluso, who served one year and
is now an assistant principal in Pittsford. Seniors
Jake Boyce (attack), Dylan Bittlingmaier (midfield)
and Will Morse (defense) were named to the first
team All League list. Boyce was also named to
the All America Team.
The
Panthers were seeded 6th in the Class A Tournament
and finished 6th after beating Churchville-Chili
(16-2) and then losing to Fairport (12-4).
Pittsford lost nine players to
graduation, including Boyce (Binghamton) and Justin
Rand (Geneseo) in attack, Bittlingmaier (Sacred Heart)
and face off man Justin Nadler in midfield and Morse
(Bates) and Matt Reganbogen in defense. Also gone
are Steve Mathews in the goal and midfielder Greg
Gans who graduated early from Pittsford and will
not play this season.
The good news is that Coach Whipple
is back. The bad news is that Boyce and a number
of key players are gone. The Panthers have a number
of good players including seniors Mike Peacock and
JJ Postel in midfield. Senior Bert Schoff and junior
Michael Troop return to the defense in front of senior
Chris Jacobs who had some excellent games last year
for the Panthers. Senior attackman Jamie Moran returns
to attack and top newcomers include junior attackman
Cam Edmiston and junior middie Matt Scherer.
Pittsford will have their hands
full with a very challenging Monroe County -1 league
and will have to look to a much more balanced team
without Boyce. Schoff is a tough defenseman but will
need to fit into a team concept to keep Jacobs away
from volume. Jacobs, a standout skier, can be expected
to make some big saves. Coach Whipple will need to
bring his group of athletic players along quickly.
