Preseason 2006 - Gates
 -

GATES CHILI
s5 - 2005 was the first Varsity year for Gates Chili and they placed 6th in the MC-2 division with a 4-10 record (4-13 over all). Senior midfielder Dave Street and sophomore defenseman Jacob Johnson were named to the MC-2 All League list. The Spartans were seeded 13th in the Class A tournament and lost to Schroeder in the first round (14-1).

Only three seniors graduated in 2005. Gone are Dave Street and Ricky Tatar in midfield and Frank Battaglia in the goal.gates1

Returning are junior Jacob Johnson and senior Ed Vargas in defense who will be joined by newcomer senior Paul Leoni. Juniors Andy Hilton and Charles Giehl and sophomores Tom Elkins and Tom Sudek return on attack. Senior midfielders Jimmy Drabin and Andy McEntee return and will be joined by newcomer sophomores Patrick Sposato and Brad Webber. Junior defensive middie Carlos Saaverda moves up from JV and newcomer freshman Jason Baetzhold will join veteran Dave Bellavia in the goal.

The Spartans will be playing in the new Monroe County-3 division with a majority of new teams and their attack will score goals. Johnson is a good defenseman who will be able to get some take-aways. Coach Sweeney has added a couple of MC-2 games with HFL and Hilton and an MC-1 game with Rush-Henrietta. Gates Chili should improve this year.
