Preseason Report: Greece, Hilton, Livonia
 -
GREECE

Greece (Odyssey) was on it's own in 2004. (In 2005 they will be a combined team with Athena). The Leopards were winless although they had close games with Hilton and Pal-Mac and ended the season 0-8, 0-17.

In the Class C tournament they lost to top ranked Penn Yan in the quarter final round.

Juniors Joe Hallowell (att) and Curtis Boshnack (goal) were joined by senior Rob Weilert (mid) on the second team MC-2 list.

Five seniors were lost to graduation including Weilert and attackman Steve Dupra.

Greece (Odyssey), as a small Class C team, has struggled over the last three years, winning only two games but that could change as they combine with Greece Athena and move to Class A. Seniors Joe Hallowell, Mike Kemp and Tad Barker along with junior Dave Rodriguez will return in the midfield. Defensive returners include senior Cody List and junior Jon Talent. New players will include sophomores Matt Machucki (att) and midfielders Nick Kulzer, Shawn Uderitz and Jeremy Fitzgerald. The larger base of students may result in more athletes in the future for Greece, but the change is certainly increasing the excitement for the new Thunder.

HILTON

Hilton was 3rd in Monroe County-2 with a 4-6 record (4-13 over all).

Seeded 10th in the Class A Tournament, the Cadets lost to Thomas in the first round (14-8).

Senior midfielder Tyler Endres made the All League Team in MC-2.

Hilton lost six players to graduation including Endres (Albany), attackman Ryan Eastman and defenseman Zac Towner.

The Cadets continue to be a young team, but found success last year with the paring of eighth grader Mitch Ritchie with senior Tyler Endres, so although seniors Dominic Collichio (goal), Matt Faulks (def) and Cris Ciaccia (mid) return, Hilton will be playing with five freshmen as well. Matt Davidson is back in the defense and Mitch Ritchie returns to the attack. They will be joined by new freshmen midfielders James Moss, Colin Walker and Jay Clifford. Sophomore defenseman Patt Noble will also be looking for time. The MC-2 schedule will help but games with Penfield and Pittsford may be a reach this year.

LIVONIA

Livonia tied for second with Bath in the first year of the GRALL league with a league record of 3-3 (10-9 over all).

The Bulldogs were seeded 5th in the Class C Tournament and after beating Mynderse, 11-7, lost to Penn Yan (12-5) in the semi final game. Junior midfielder, Josh Hendrickson was selected to the All Tournament Team.

Livonia lost seven players to graduation; including first team all league players, Kevin Thomas (def), Tom Every (mid) and Pat Wahl (att).

With only two seniors returning and the loss of the entire attack, Livonia will be counting on the experience of a bunch of juniors who return for the 2005 campaign. The midfield will see the return of seniors Josh Hendickson and Sean Wright and juniors Scott Mosher and Chadd Britton. Junior attackman John Dalberth returns along with juniors Aaron Jamison (Goal), Shane Moran (Def) and Andy Kurtz (Def). Top new players include junior Luke Merritt, and sophomores Adam Schaible and Oren Taylor in the midfield and junior Brent Simpson and sophomore Brian Sciera in the attack. The Bulldog’s schedule is full of teams well within their grasp.

Team Strengths: Last years deep sophomore class returns with one year of varsity experience. Very deep and athletic at midfield and on the defensive end of the field. Livonia always has very coachable hard working kids.

Team Weaknesses: Graduated the entire starting attack. A very young team, only two senior returners. Must replace 4 league All-stars.

Season Outlook: Livonia is still a young program (4 years of varsity lax) stick skills and team depth continue to improve as the program grows. Livonia looks to be competitive in the GRALL and is looking forward to the rivalries that have sprouted from the new league which was very competitive last year. Livonia's success in league play and sectionals will depend upon the development of a very young team.
