| May 17, 2012 - Fairport took a 7-1 lead on their way to a 8-5 win over visiting Irondequoit to preserve their perfect regular season (16-0). Victor defeated Pittsford 13-12, Penfield beat Orchard Park 13-8, Newark beat B-H, Arc/Oly took out Eastridge 9-6 and Aquinas beat Canisius 4-3. The other winners were Gananda, Spencerport, Churchville-Chili, Canandaigua, Waterloo, McQuaid Jesuit, Hilton, Livonia, Geneva, Akron, ER, and Schroeder.
--  It's been quite a while coming, but Fairport's 8-5 victory over visiting Irondequoit, gave the Red Raiders a perfect season, 16-0. In what many would call a stunning upset,  Fairport racked up a 7-1 lead over the highly regarded Eagles.
Fairport scored their first goal on their first possession just thirty-three seconds into the game. Senior middie Brian Martin scored the first of his three goals in the game. Starting at the top left, Martin drove past his defender and bounced a shot over the shoulder of Irondequoit senior goalie Eric Fischer. Fischer made a number of dramatic stops in the game and consistently popped the ball to breaking midfielder on the clears. Almost nine minutes of transition play took place before Irondequoit tied the score at 1-1. Senior attackman Nick Doktor scored the first of his four goals in the game at 2:10. He started with the ball behind the cage and drove to the goalie's left and put one in the right corner past Fairport senior goalie Blaze Riorden. The Eagles did not score again for nearly twenty-seven minutes.
The Red Raiders scored again after winning the face off possession on a technical foul. VanBortle had another drive from the top of the box and scored with a strong over the shoulder shot from front left. Senior midfielder Andrew Brennan used the same technique, scoring from out front with a low shot with less than a minute left in the first  quarter. The Red Raiders had a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Fairport scored three unanswered goals in the second quarter and one more in the third quarter. VanBortle scored the first goal at 11:02 when he ran a parallel cut with Martin who threw him the ball when the Eagle defense started to slide toward him. Brennan scored at the four minute mark with a strong side arm from way out front. Fairport's sixth goal came at 2:41 when sophomore Dan McAvoy passed the ball to junior middie Kevin Vaughn. It was 6-1 Fairport at the half. Martin scored the only goal in the third quarter when he started at midfield and ran the ball around behind the cage.He then drove on a tight cut on the crease before popping the ball into the net. The Raiders had their biggest lead of the game at 7-1 after three quarters.
A great deal of the success for Fairport was the result of extraordinary saves by Riorden, who, as they say, "stood on his head" in this game. On a least three occasions in the third quarter alone, he stopped one-on-one shots from very close range, making the goaltending art seem simple.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Eagles. They had a couple attempts at a come-back and won the quarter 4-1, but found too little, too late. Doktor scored on the first possession of the quarter when he drove on a parallel cut fifteen yards out and scored with a strong side arm shot. The momentum started to swing when, about thirty seconds later, Irondequoit scored again. Senior middie Gunnar Miller cut to the top of the crease just in time to catch the feed by Briele Caples on the left wing. That  goal took the score to 7-3. The Eagle excitement was curtailed shortly thereafter when Martin scored on a feed from McAvoy to give the Raiders an 8-3 lead. Doktor and the rest of the Eagles would not give in, however. They mounted another run, scoring two goals between 4:40 and 3:39. Both goals were by Doktor. The first was with an assist from Caples. His second goal, tight on the crease after a ground ball scramble was unassisted. Both teams fought hard for possession, but the majority of the last three minutes belonged to Fairport. In spite of double team take away attempts by Irondequoit. Fairport maintained the ball inside the box to ride out the win.
Fairport finishes their regular season as the only undefeated team in the Section. They, and the Eagles will await the "Seeding Meeting" on Sunday to see when and whom they will play when the Section V tournaments start on Monday. 
-- Aquinas scored the last two goals of the game in the final 3:02 to come from behind and defeat Canisius (Section Six) 4-3. The Crusaders are now 4-11 on the season. Aquinas scored the opening goal of the game with Pete DiLaura feeding Alex Bianchi only 0:55 into the game. The score remained 1-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Canisius scored the opening goal of the second quarter when Mike Phillips assisted Ryan Matthews with 5:20 remaining in the quarter. Aquinas took back the lead going into halftime with an unassisted goal from Billy Lombardi with 0:50 remaining. Aquinas led 2-1 at halftime. Canisius scored the only goal of the third quarter with Paul Burich assisting Steve Leous. The score was tied 2-2 after three quarters.
In the fourth quarter Canisius scored again to take the lead for the first time. Creighton Barnett scored with an assist from Phillips. The Crusaders only held the lead for 5:52 before the Little Irish re-tied the game. Bianchi scored, with an assist from Jake Vogl. 0:55 later and the Little Irish secured the win. DiLaura scored unassisted for Aquinas. The Little Irish won the last face off and held the ball without a shot as time expired.
For Aquinas Lombardi finished 5/8 (63%) at the face off draw. Midfielder DiLaura and defenseman Marc Pettrone finished with five ground balls each to lead the Little Irish. In the cage for Aquinas, Erich Wischmeyer finished with nine saves. For the Crusaders, Connor Cleary led with three ground balls. In the age, Andrew Cleary finished with seven saves.

In total there were seven technical fouls called against Canandaigua during the face off. Como also led his team in ground balls with 10.
Junior midfielder Nick Binnert led in scoring for the Royal Comets with 3g-2a. Junior Chauncey Scissum also finished with three goals for RH. Midfielder Jordan Messimer finished 7/12 (58%) at the face off draw. Five of his seven wins were technical wins. Leading the Royal Comets in ground balls was Scissum with eight. LSM Jordan Cochrane finished with seven ground balls and Jackson Sadowski had with six.
In the cage for Canandaigua, Michael Cuciti and Anthony Laudisi split time. Cuciti played 30 minutes and recorded five saves. Laudisi finished out the game and recorded seven saves. Included in the seven were four saves made in the final 90 seconds. For RH, McKenzie Spooner and Jeff Delany split halves. Spooner played the opening half and recorded two saves and Delany played the second half and recorded three saves.

Hilton kept the game tied going into halftime with a goal from Dante Giordano with 0:05 remaining in the quarter.
In the third quarter, Gates Chili scored first again. Phil Ruf scored with an assist by John Wise, during another man-up opportunity. The game was plagued by penalties with 16 between the two teams. Hilton scored the next two goals to take the lead back. Freshman Shawn Kimble scored the first and Derek Richards scored the second. Gates Chili tied the game again at 6-6 with a goal form Joe Talarico, assisted by Michael Volta Jr. Hilton added the final goal of the quarter to lead going into the fourth 7-6.
After trading goals, Hilton scored four straight unanswered goals to secure their win. Gates Chili added the final goal of the game during a double man-up, both for unsportsmanlike conduct. Ralph Taliento scored with an assist from London Booker. In the cage for Hilton, freshman Jarod Kimble played the entire game and finished with eight saves. For Gates Chili, Tyler Jacobson finished with 13 saves.

Leading the charge was junior midfielder Sean Cunningham with 2g-6a. Junior attackman Drew Feinberg finished with four goals and sophomore attackman Fran Shaw finished with three goals. In the cage, Derek Grillone recorded four saves in three quarters and Jake Sahrle finished with one save in the final quarter. Wayne had three players make their scorebook. Nick Graziose and Josh Bowman scored the two goals and Andrew Jenkins added a single assist. In the cage, Justin Townsend finished with 16 saves.
-- Batavia fell to Akron (Section Six) 21-5 this afternoon. The Blue Devils had three players make their offensive scorebook with senior attackman Phil Boyd leading the charge. He finished with 2g-1a. Senior midfielder Josh Marr finished with two goals. In the cage, James Gomez and Tristan Flint split halves. Gomez finished with nine saves and Flint finished with four saves. Akron finished their regular season 12-3.
-- Newark defeated Bloomfield-Honeoye 5-3. The Reds scored two goals in the second quarter and held on for the win. Leading in scoring for Newark was senior Omar Jaohar with two goals. In the cage, senior Dominic Camblin finished with 10 saves. No report from Bloomfield-Honeoye.
-- Without much information it is difficult to say what happened beyond that fact that Victor defeated Pittsford 13-12. The Blue Devils went up 6-2 after the first quarter. However, it was tied again at halftime and at the end of the third quarter. Victor scored two goals to the Panthers single goal in the final quarter to secure the win.
Victor was led in scoring by senior midfielder John Maloney with five goals. Senior attackman Mitch Rupp finished with four assists. In the cage for the Blue Devils, Chris Saar finished with 10 saves.No report from Pittsford.

-- Webster Schroeder picked up its second win of the season with a 15-8 win over Brighton. The Warriors had 11 different scorers in their win. Four players had their first Varsity goal: Sig Sahil, Aaron Hall, Jake Guy and Josh Reed. The first half was back and forth. Schroeder scored the opening goal with an unassisted goal from Mike Austin 1:04 into the contest. Brighton came back and scored the next two goals to take their first lead of the game. Will Hunnerlach and Robert Haggerty scored for the Barons. Schroeder re-tied the game with a face off fast break from Brett Zilliox. Zilliox finished 7/9 (78%) at the face off draw. Schroeder added two more goals before the end of the quarter to lead 4-2.
In the second quarter, Brighton scored the first two goals to tie the game for the third time at 4-4. Pat Mann and Vinny Rockwell both scored unassisted for the Barons. Schroeder took back the lead with another unassisted goal from Austin. The first half ended with Schroeder leading 5-4. Brighton once again tied the game early in the quarter. Casey Kopp scored, with an assist from Alex Ballatori, to tie the score at 5-5 with 8:55 remaining in the third quarter. Schroeder scored the next six goals, five in the third quarter, to secure their win. In the fourth quarter, the Warriors kept piling on the goals. Schroeder scored five and held Brighton to only three.
In addition to Zilliox, Josh Reed took face offs for the Warriors. Reed finished 9/16 (53%). Four of his nine wins were technical fouls. Reed also led in ground balls with seven. Zilliox finished with six as did defenseman Chase Kuhl. In the cage, Willie Klan finished with 12 saves. Rockwell led in the ground ball count for Brighton with five. In the cage, Tom Hilling finished with eight saves.

-- East Rochester defeated Bishop Kearney 14-11. The Bombers led 3-2 after the first and 7-6 at halftime. In the third quarter, ER took off and added four goals while holding the Kings scoreless. Leading in scoring for ER was Raymond Shalvoy and Jordan Michele with 5g-1a each. In the cage, Jonathan Caton and Liridon Dervisholli split halves. Caton finished with five saves and Dervisholli finished with three saves. No report from Bishop Kearney.
