Saturday: Gates in OT, Pal-Mac over Geneva
 - 

On the last day of March there were a dozen games played and one game postponed. The most exciting game was Gates over Eastridge in overtime. Pal-Mac Beat Geneva 8-7. Pittsford started out five goals down but came back at West Genesee, where the Wildcats won 9-6. Irondequoit downed Canandaigua 11-4. Other winners were Penn Yan, R-H, Fairport, Churchville, Hilton, Spencerport, Victor and Aquinas.

  --  Irondequoit scored four goals in the first quarter, while holding Canandaigua scoreless on their way to an 11-4 win over the Braves. The Eagles kept up the pressure for the whole game. They finished with seven different players making the scorebook. George Jerman finished with 4g and Nick Doktor finished with 3g. Junior midfielders Joel Roemer and Ben Brooks each finished with one assist. Between the pipes for the Eagles, Eric Fischer finished with 13 saves.

For the Braves, Taylor Spike led with 1g-2a. Senior midfielder Matt Scharr (2g) and junior attackman Dan LaCrosse (1g) rounded out the scoring for Canandaigua. In the cage, Michael Cuciti played the entire game and recorded 6 saves.  return to top

  --  In a Monroe County cross-over game at Brighton today, the Royal Comets scored two goals in man up in the second quarter to secure an 8-6 win over the Baron. Each team scored three goals in the first quarter, and R-H led at the half 5-3. In the third quarter Brighton took the game to within one, but in the final quarter Rush-Henrietta sealed the victory with one more unanswered goal.

Junior midfielder Casey Kopp led the offensive effort by Brighton with 1g-3a and juniors Alex Ballatori and Robert Haggerty each added 2g. Junior face off specialist, Vinnie Rockwell, won 9 of 18 face offs for the Barons (0-3). Senior goalie Tom Hilling made 13s (62%). They will host Penn Yan on Thursday.

Seven players for R-H made the offensive scorebook. Senior midfielder Jackson Sadowski led the list with 3g. Junior middies Sean Tomkinson and Nick Binnert each had 2g-1a. Junior goalie McKenzie Spooner made 6s for the Royal Comets (2-0) who will wait almost two week to play their next game at HF-L.    return to top

They added two more in the third before slowing down the game in the fourth quarter. Anthony Merola scored the only goal for the Thunder in the second quarter. In the cage for Ath/Ody Mike Zimmer finished with 10 saves.

For Churchville-Chili, eight players scored and 21 made the scorebook. Leading in scoring was sophomore Trevor Hodgins with 4g-1a. Hodgins had eight shots with six on cage. Freshman Ryan Cosgrove finished with 2g-1a. Leading the ground ball charge for the Saints was defenseman Nick Bruno and Cosgrove with four each. In the cage, Mike Yehl and Jack Corcoran split halves. Corcoran played the first half and recorded a single save. Yehl played the second half and recorded five saves.

Overall, the Saints led 46-11 in shots and 46-29 in ground balls. Only four players from the Thunder took any shots. Merola finished with eight shots. Joe Angello, Cam Ernstberger and Brian Torcha each took one shot. Torcha led in ground balls with five.  return to top

  --  In one of the most exciting games of the day, Gates Chili defeated Eastridge 6-5. Senior midfielder Ralph Taliento caught a pass from junior attackman Phil Ruf for the game winner with 1:11 left in the overtime period.

Eastridge started the game with the only two goals of the first quarter and then the first goal in the second. Junior attackman Anthony Coffaro scored the first of his 2g-2a with 4:10 left in the first quarter. Two minutes later senior attackman Danny Ott scored an unassisted goal to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

Coffaro found senior midfielder Brandon Burley for the first goal in the second quarter, but Gates Chili put up the next four in a row. Senior offensiveman John Wise started it off with an unassisted goal. Less than a minute later junior attackman Joe Caccamise scored on a feed from Wise. Wise then scored while man down on a pass from Taliento. Senior midfielder London Booker ended the quarter with an unassisted goal.

Eastridge senior midfielder Ethan Printy tied the game at 4-4 with the only goal scored in the third quarter. Coffaro assisted on the man up goal.

The Lancers started off the last quarter with a goal when Burley found Coffaro just one minute into play. Less than two minutes later Wise scored an unassisted goal taking the score to 5-5. No one was able to score for over nine minutes and the game went to overtime.

Face offs were split between the teams, with Eastridge winning 7 and Gates Chili winning 6. Lancer senior goalie Tyler Jacobson recorded 14s (74%). Eastridge senior defenseman led the Lancer ground ball effort with nine. Printy added 7. For Gates Chili Wise, Ruf and Jacobson each picked up 5 ground balls.   return to top

In the cage for Hilton, Mark Detroia played three quarters and recorded one save. Jarod Kimble finished the final quarter and also recorded one save. Montgomery, Endres and tom Bianchi each finished with five ground balls for the Cadets. For Brockport, Elijah Ryan and Hunter DeLany split goalie time at the half.   --  No one seemed to notice at the time, but Spencerport and Greece Arcadia/Olympia played 15 minute quarters in their game today which Spencerport won 17-10. The Rangers had scoring from seven players. Attackman Matt Kaser finished with 2g-9a and attackman Zach Goodsell finished with 7g. Spencerport finished the game with 49 shots and the Lightning finished with 28. Three Rangers had over 10 shots (Jeff Nitti, Goodsell and Kaser).

Spencerport scored the first goal with Kaser assisting Goodsell. Greece scored the next three goals all during man-up possessions. Dylan Mahan scored the first two and Robert Kitchen scored the third. Connor May assisted the first goal and Sergio Rosado assisted the second and third. With 5:13 remaining in the opening quarter, Greece led 3-1. Spencerport scored the next seven goals to take the lead permanently.

Spencerport's Seth Miller finished 18/30 at the face-off draw, four of his losses were due to technical fouls. Between the pipes for Spencerport, Tyler Schweikert played the majority of the game and was credited with nine saves. Nick Ventrella played a short time when Schweikert was in the penalty box and recorded two saves. Shane Trost played nearly three quarters (42 minutes) for the Lightning and recorded seven saves. Josh Hovey played 18 minutes and also recorded seven saves (54%).

  --  West Genesee defeated Pittsford 9-6. The Panthers tried for a late comeback, but the Wildcats held back the Panthers. West Genesee scored the first six goals of the game before the Panthers got on the scoreboard.

In the second quarter, Jack Lauroesch scored off an assist from Stephen Quinzi during an extra-man offense. West Genesee scored the next two goals (both in third quarter) to increase their lead to 8-1. With 10:30 remaining in the third quarter, the Panthers kicked up their scoring. They added one more goal in the third quarter with an unassisted mark from Corey Parke.

In the fourth quarter, the Panthers scored four and held the Wildcats to only one goal. Quinzi scored the first goal of the quarter with a man-up goal (assisted by Parke). Pittsford's Marc Weyl and Tyler Aycock scored two of the final goals (both unassisted) for the Panthers.

At the face-off mark, Matt Barbaccia finished 9/17 (53%) for the Panthers. He won five face-offs himself and four on technical fouls. In the cage, Luke Loveys finished with six saves.  return to top

Leading in scoring for Thomas was attackman Jake Giudice with 3g-1a. Attackmen Kevin Hill and John Hill each added two goals for the Titans. Midfielder Troy Crevier took the most shots for the Titans with nine. He also led in ground balls with four. Kevin Hill and Co Fiore also added four ground balls each. For the Knights, Jake Merkel and Duncan Ayer scored with Alex Paroda adding a single assist. Paroda led in shooting for the Knights with 12 shots. Ayer had nine shots. Merkel and midfielder Theo Ekiyor each finished with five ground balls for McQuaid.

Between the pipes for McQuaid, Pat Sheridan finished with eight saves. For Thomas, Bezek played the majority and was only out of the goal during a penalty. Alex Gulisano played for two minutes and recorded two saves. At the face-off draw, the game was evenly split with Thomas wining 6/11. Joe Stacey won 4/9 and Crevier won both of his draws.
