Saturday: The End of Spring Break |
April 17, 2004 - With school back in session on Monday, this was the last chance for games during spring break-2004. There were a couple of last minute come-back wins that delighted the fans.
Canandaigua scored the first four goals and held Irondequoit score-less until the 8:25 mark of the third quarter. Patience was the name of the game as the Braves methodically held the ball on offense, constantly moving the ball around the outside and looking for only the "right moment" to shoot.
Junior middie, Dan Groot scored the first goal at the 10:00 mark of the first quarter with an assists from Steve Smith. Junior attackman, Chris Mulheron scored the first of his two goals at 7:09 and the quarter ended at 2-0. Aaron Manzer scored and unassisted goal in the 2nd quarter, ending the half at 3-0.
“It was one of the best defensive games I can remember,” Canandaigua coach John Johnson told the Finger Lakes Times. “To hold a quality team like Irondequoit to one goal over the first 36 minutes is pretty special.”
In the third quarter Irondequoit got on the scoreboard when sophomore middie, Derek Pino found the net with an assist from senior attackman, Jon Timkey.
