Penfield 11 - Fairport 5
Penfield came out swinging with a 4-0 lead in the first quarter and continued on to
an 11-5 win over Fairport. Fairport hosted the Patriots on their home field
for the last time ever, as work begins on the new field this week.
The
Patriots' James Dwyer scored the first two goals of the competition (the second
assisted by Connor Rice). Rice finished the game with 4 goals and 4 assists.
Kyle Van Thof scored after being fed on the crease by Rice and Rice added one
of his own on a fast-break.
The Red Raiders outscored the Patriots 3-1 in the second quarter. Fairport's
Brendan Saylor scored their first two goals of the game after a broken clear
and a cross-crease pass. Rice added another after his own broken clear. He
had a number of hard side-arm shots in the game this afternoon, demonstrating
his strength as well as his precision but only took five shots, all of which
were on cage, and scored on four. Fairport's Aaron Jones added the last goal
of the quarter with an outside shot (assisted by Eric Hislop). The score was
5-3 at the half.
Penfield began their domination in the third quarter scoring the first five
goals to take their lead to 10-3. Fairport scored the last goal of the quarter
at 2:27 with a feed from behind the cage by Saylor to Jones. In the fourth
quarter each team scored one goal. Rice added his fourth of the game off yet
another broken clear. John McDonnell scored the last goal with hard outside
shot that dribbled into the goal after the initial save (assisted by Saylor).
Fairport switched goalies with five minutes remaining, however, Thomas Gropp
did not have any shots on cage to face. Kristoffer Sterzin played the first
43 minutes for the Red Raiders and finished at 50% (11s/11ga). Brady Del Pozzo
had a stand out day for the Patriots and finished with 10s/5ga (66%).
Rice
led the Patriots with seven ground balls and two takes. Rice was strong on
riding for the Patriots, who held the Red Raiders to 50% clearing. The Patriots
scored four goals on broken clears. Alex Nowak also played strong on LSM and
helped the Patriots to their win.
Michael Lehmann dominated the face-offs for Fairport with 16/19 (84%). Lehmann
lost two of his three face-offs on technical losses (lose-ball push and early
start).

and Terwilliger (1g).

Nick Newland (1g-1a) and Travis Bevins (1g).
Schroeder 9 - Pittsford 5
Webster
Schroeder scored three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to guarantee
the win over visiting Pittsford, 9-5.
The game was close for three quarters, with the Warriors taking a 4-2 lead
in the first and a smaller, 5-4 lead at the half. Schroeder led 6-5 at the
end of the third before adding three more in the last quarter.
Pittsford secured possession of the ball for five minutes at the start of the
game. Passing the ball around the perimeter, the Panthers were methodically
and patient, effectively keeping the ball away from Schroeder. The Panthers
scored the first goal at 7:15 when James Purpura scored the first of his three
goals with a hard underhand shot from the goalie's left front. Although the
Panthers controlled the ball after the next face off, the Warriors forced a
turnover and took the ball up field where after a loose ball pickup by Mike
Tota, Cody Consul received a crease feed while unattended and he scored at
5:52.
After the face off, senior middie Nick Mooney took the ball right to the goal
and scored with a hard side-arm shot to stick side middle. Schroeder scored
their third in a row in EMO when Joe Matison sent the ball from "X" to
Mooney who scored with an underhand "worm burner" at 3:01. Chris
Mason scored the last Schroeder goal of the quarter at 1:55 with a bounce shot
the ended up in the top of the net, just over Brendan Green's shoulder. After
the next face off Purpura fed Jimmy O`Neil, just off the crease to end the
quarter with Schroeder up 4-2.
After starting the second quarter in EMO, Pittsford scored (right after the
advantage) when David Quinzi sent the ball to Purpura who was low on the crease
taking the Panthers within one goal. Pittsford controlled the ball time for
much of the quarter as the Warriors saw a total of five slashes in the first
half. That, combined with Pittsford's slow-down offense kept the Panthers in
the game. Purpura scored the tying goal at 1:20 after a shot bounced of Scott
Tota's chest pad. He caught the ball right of the richoche and quick-sticked
the ball into the open net. The tie was short-lived, however as Mike Tota scored
an unassisted goal for Webster after picking up a loose crease ball, dodging
his defender and scoring one-one one with the Green. The half ended with Schroeder
up 5-4.
A thirty-second push call at the end of the second quarter gave Pittsford the
ball in EMO at the top of the third quarter but they were unable to score.
The ball moved back and forth from one end of the field to the other until,
at 4:12, Pittsford tied the game at five with a goal by Tom Schmitz with an
assist from Conor McDermott. Webster took the lead once more with Tota scoring
on a pass from Consul with 44 second left in the quarter which ended with Schroeder
up 6-5.
The defensive units on both teams were in high gear throughout the game. The
defensive play of Joe Dupra, Tyler Prichard and Justin McLiverty in the third
quarter were aggressive but patient and limited the Warriors from getting shots
that Green could not save. Green made some excellent saves at critical times
and kept the game close enough to expect the offense to do their part. Webster's
defensive unit of Shane Farrell, Eric Horeth and Michael Blood challenged the
Panthers at every opportunity and looked for every chance to double up on the
ball. Sometimes they created the turn over and sometimes Pittsford beat the
double, although they rarely found the open man after dodging those doubles.
Webster's defense was successful at holding Conor McDermott (20g-10a) to a
single assist in the game.
Schroeder extended their lead after the face off when Joe Matison drove to
the corner of the crease and stuck one into the corner of the net. Ball control
had switched from Pittsford to Webster, and the Warriors held on to the ball.
Although they had many feeds to crease cutters, they did not often result in
shots as the ball was knocked down or deflected. Webster often picked up the
resulting ground balls and Pittsford started to run out of gas. Webster scored
two more while keeping the Panthers scoreless in the fourth. Nick Mooney scored
the last two goals, the first with an assist from Consul to the high crease
and the second unassisted.
The final score of 9-5 did not reflect the closeness and intensity of the game.
Schroeder's five slash calls in the first half fed Pittsford's successful slow-down
offense and the Panthers had many good looks, some of which were missed opportunities,
but their patience on both offense and defense let them play even ball for
three quarters. Schroeder recovered from the penalties, none of which were
scored on, and chipped away until they were able (and ready) to take advantage
of Pittsford fourth quarter let up. The game was good lacrosse.
Scoring for Schroeder were Cody Consul (1g-2a), Nick Mooney (4g), Chris Mason
(1g), Mike Tota (2g-1a) and Joe Matison (1g-1a). Scott Tota had 8s/5ga for
Schroeder (5-4).
Scoring for Pittsford were James Purpura (3g-1a), Jimmy O`Neil (1g), Tom Schmitz
(1g), David Quinzi (1a) and Conor McDermott (1a). Brendan Green had 9s/9ga
for Pittsford (6-4).

Eastridge 15-6.
Scoring for Hilton were David Smith (7g), Colin Walker (4g), Matt Fracassi
(1g-2a), Jimmy Gaffney (1g-2a), Kyle Youngman (1g-1a), Troy Johnson (1g) and
Aaron Hayward (1a). In the cage, Brad Speer finished with 8s/6ga. No report
from Eastridge..
McQuaid Jesuit 13 - Aquinas 9
McQuaid Jesuit had two stretches of three goals, but other then that, the teams alternated
goals for nearly the entire game. The game was played back and forth, but the
Knights held on to win 13-9.
McQuaid Jesuit scored the first goal as Mitch Ritchie scored on a fast-break feed
from John Jenkins. Ritchie finished with 4g-2a. His goals were often pretty
and over the top, including two behind the back goals with one goal where he
spun around in a circle and finished with a behind the back goal into the upper
corner. Jassen Torres scored the first goal for the Little Irish on feed from
behind the cage from Austin Gorman. McQuaid Jesuit then started the first three goal
run. Ritchie scored the first goal on a hard outside side-arm shot. With 3:32
left Jeff MacDonald scored on and EMO goal (assisted by Ritchie). MacDonald
led all scorers with 5 goals. Corey Flanigan scored the final goal in the series
for the Knights.
There was a significant number of penalties in the game. The Knights finished
with 14 penalties and Aquinas finished with 8. Aquinas scored on 4/12 and McQuaid Jesuit
scored on 3/7.
The second quarter was scored one for one. As each team scored back and forth.
Neil Foley scored the first Aquinas goal on an unsettled situation followed
shortly there after with a Nick Caton goal during a Man Down Situation. There
were three man-down goals in the game with two for McQuaid Jesuit and one for Aquinas.
Aquinas scored the next goal with an EMO goal by Marc Brondon, assisted by
Anthony Bianchi. The Knights goal was scored by Ritchie on the spinning behind
the back shot to the top shelf. On his way to the crease to execute the move,
he dodged four different Little Irish players. Aquinas scored the next goal
during another man-up opportunity as Cameron Corsaro scored off a feed from
Gorman with 0:23 remaining in the half. The final goal of the quarter was by
McQuaid Jesuit during a face-off fast-break. Tim Caton fed the ball to MacDonald for
his second goal of the game. The score was 7-4 at halftime.
The teams continued to scored back and forth with only one slight exception.
Mike Gray, of Aquinas scored with a feed from Torres during yet another EMO.
Ritchie's fourth goal came off a broken clear and his second behind the back
goal as Pat Jenkins found him cutting on the crease. Aquinas scored the next
two goals to bring the game with one goal (8-7). Bianchi scored during man-down
(with an assist for Casey Vogl) and one minute later Gorman scored with a straight
dodge from the midfield line after a restart. The Little Irish were the closest
they would ever be. The Knights scored the next two goals to keep the pattern
of back and forth going. Nick Caton scored unassisted with an outside shot
to finished the quarter 9-7.
The first goal of the fourth quarter was also by McQuaid Jesuit. Jeff MacDonald scored
his first of three goals in the fourth quarter with an EMO goal, assisted by
Eric Wright. Aquinas scored the next goal with Mike Gray (assisted by Gorman)
scoring on a feed from behind the cage on their fourth EMO goal. McQuaid Jesuit scored
the second three goal streak at this point with JD Ayer scoring (assisted by
Caton) and two more MacDonald goals (the first assisted by Flanigan and the
second by Ritchie). Dylan Pinto added the last goal of the game for Aquinas
with a straight sweep from the top after a time-out for the Little Irish.
The Knights played a strong consistent game and used a couple of lapses by
the Little Irish to win. MacDonald and Ritchie combined on attack to overwhelm
the Little Irish defense. Casey Vogl and Mike Messina were strong at the face-off
for the Little Irish as Vogl finished 7/10 and Messina 7/11. Clint Masterson
for McQuaid Jesuit was 7/13.
Penalties were a major issue for both teams. Although no Little Irish had double
penalties, McQuaid Jesuit's Mitch Bailey, Tim Caton, Pat Jenkins and Mike Micca all
had more then one penalty.
In the cage, Dan Caufield had a strong game for the Knights as he finished
with 17s/9ga (65%). Kraig Heston finished at 50% (13s/13ga).
Scoring for McQuaid Jesuit were Ritchie (4g-2a), MacDonald (5g), Nick Caton (2g-1a),
Flanigan (1g-1a), JD Ayer (1g), John Jenkins (1a), Pat Jenkins (1a), Tim Caton
(1a) and Eric Wright (1a).

the Brighton goalie, Kyle Hohmann. Brighton then got on the board when attackmen
