Gates Chili 17 - Eastridge 5
Gates
Chili scored 13 straight goals spanning three quarters to defeat Eastridge
17-5. The
Lancers, for various reasons, only fielded 13 players for the competition and
became tired as the game preceded. The Lancers played up to the Spartans for
the first half, however, in the second half Gates Chili stepped it up and came
away with the big win.
The Spartan's Jeff Fichtner scored the first goal of the competition with a
bounce shot from a straight drive to the cage. Gates Chili scored many of their
goals on straight drives and the Lancers seemed unable to stop their progress.
Fichtner finished the game with 5 goals on 5 shots on cage (9 total shots)
and added two assists. Eastridge's Brandon Moynihan scored the first Eastridge
goal to tie the game at 1-1. Moynihan finished with three of the five Lancer
goals. Gates Chili scored the next two goals, both with straight undefended
drives as Brad Weber and Fichtner both found the back of the cage.
Eastridge
scored the next three goals to both take the lead and end the quarter. Adam
Sisson scored the first goal. Sisson finished the game with 7 ground balls
and was 9/19 at the face-off. The next goal was scored by Moynihan although
his involvement started much earlier. After an out of bounds Spartan ball near
midfield, Moynihan ran over to attempt a ride and turned back the Spartan resulting
in a take. On the ensuing possession he scored with an inside feed from Matt
Driffill. The last Lancer goal of the half was also scored by Moynihan on an
outside shot. The first quarter ended with Eastridge leading 4-3.
The second quarter started with another Fichter goal. This time, Lancer goalie
Eugene Ferrera made a save and in the scuffle for the ground ball, Fichter
picked up the ball and capitalized. Ferrera finished the game with 7s/13g.
Driffill scored the final goal for the Lancers at 3:45 with an assist from
Joe Mortillaro. At this point the Lancers led 5-4, but it was all Gates Chili
for the remaining 27 minutes.
Gates Chili scored five goals in the third with Mike Green scoring two, Brad
Weber with one, Fichtner with another and Grant Ferguson scoring one. Ferguson's
goal came with 0:01 remaining in the third quarter. Defenseman Adam Wacenske
brought the ball up the field on a clear and the Lancer defense didn't stop
Ferguson as he shot the ball hard and from the outside.
The fourth quarter was also dominated by Gates Chili, as they added six more
goals to the tally and took the game into running time. Fichtner added one,
Tyler Webb added two, Weber with his fourth and final, Ferguson with another
and Tom Elkins with his lone goal of the game. Jake Czwilinski finished out
the game in the cage for the Lancers and ended with 3s/4ga.
In the cage for Gates Chili was Jason Baetzhold who finished the game with
13s/5ga (72%). The combined forces of Ferrera and Czwilinski finished at 37%.
