Tuesday: Thomas in Overtime |
May 2, 2006 - Thomas was the overtime
winner 10-9 in their game at HFL. Fairport
was the 9-3 winner at Irondequoit and Aquinas
was the 8-3 winner in GRALL action.
Geneva
had the 15-7 victory in a hard fought contest
against visiting Waterloo. The Panthers
were up 4-2 at the end of the first quarter
and led at the half 8-4.
Scoring for Geneva were John Manion (2g-4a),
John Warner (4g-1a), Kyle Boncaro (2g-1a),
Willy Rago (2g), RJ Gringeri (2g), Greg
Bonney (1g-1a), Jimmy Warner (1g) and Andy
Torruella (1g). Adam Schutz had 11 saves
for Geneva (8-4).
Scoring for Waterloo were Bill Jolly (2g),
Curtis Brosius (2g), Nelson Boyd (1g), Winston
Boyd (1g) and Josh Mateo (1g-2a). Andy Riegel
had 5 saves and Mark Nearpass had 2 saves
for the Indians (7-5).
Canandaigua
jumped out to 7-1 lead at the end of first
quarter and led 12-1 at the half but Pal-Mac
continued to play hard and never gave up
in the game that ended with the Braves winning
14-1.
Scoring for the Braves were Zack Scheetz
(1g-1a), Eric Klein (3g-2a), Jeremy Brown
(3g-1a), Charlie Sauter (1g-1a), Kevin Peck
(1g-3a), Connor Henderson (2g-1a), Tyler
Wakefield (1g-1a), Jordan Manzer (1g-1a)
and AJ Groot (1g).
Scott Bement played in the first
half and made (2s/1ga) and Kyle Carson played
in the second half and recorded 2s/0ga)
for Canandaigua (7-4).
Ryan BUckley scored one goal and Jon Reeves
(15s) continued to play well for Pal-Mac
in the goal. Peter Barry was a bright spot
tonight for P-M picking up 6 gb's.
Athena/Odyssey
won the "braggin' rights" in Greece
tonight and won their first game of the
season with their 16-4 victory over Arcadia/Olympia.
There were plenty of shots takes as the
Thunder recorded 32 and the Lightening took
22.
Junior midfielder Jeremy Fitzgerald had
a career high day with 5g-1a for the Athena/Odyssey
who also saw scoring from Matt Machucki
(2g-5a), Jared Bennett (4g-1a ), Dave Rodriguez
(3g-3a), Nick Kulzer (2g-2a) and Nick Ryan
(1a). Dave Tarana had 5 saves and Nick Bellucco
had 1 save for the Thunder.
Scoring for the Lightning were Ron Hatch
(1g-1a), Anthony White (1g) and Frank Slapar
(2g). Zach Bevilacqua had 3 saves for Arcadia/Olympia.

It
was Penn Yan with a 17-0
win over visiting Newark this afternoon.
Scoring for the Mustangs were Dan Mesler
(5g-3a), John Linnan (2g-2a), Steven Carlson
(2g-1a), Matt Osgood (2g), Dan Wolfe (2g),
Dan McGuffie (1g-3a), Ben Odell (1g-1a)
while Josh Perrault and John folts added
one goal each and Brandon Trombley,
Mike Manley and Chris Carlson each shad
one assist. RJ Wickham recorded 2 saves
and Adam Galush had 3 saves for the Mustangs
(12-1).
After
a 2-0 first quarter and 12-0 half, Victor
added 3 second half goals to win their game
over Midlakes, 15-4. Victor started out
slowly but scored ten goals in the second
quarter. Otis Wade won 5 out of 7 face-offs
and and played well defensively for Victor.
Scoring for the Blue Devils were Erick Rogemoser
(3g-2a), Jason Houtenbrink (4g), Andy Savage
(2g-1a), Eric Willman (2g-1a), Elie Naoum
(2g), Frank Valenti (1g-1a), Josh Sahr (2a)
and Mike Domizio (1g). Mitchell Liegerot
recorded 6 saves and Max Wade added 3 saves
for Victor (8-5).
Scoring for Midlakes were Nate Stevens (2g),
Jon Briggs (1g), Nick Newland (1g), Glen
Stevenson (1a) and RC Weston (1a). Jared
Schoonerman had 14 saves for the Eagles
(4-7).
Chaz
Giehl scored 3g and won 13 of 18 face offs
for Spencerport as they
won a 9-7 victory over Gate Chili. The Saints
led at the end of the first quarter (2-1)
and led at the half 6-5. At the end of three
quarters the game was tied at seven.
Spencerport saw scoring from Jeff Konko
(3g-3a), Rob Stojanov (2g-2a), Andy Morgan
(1g-2a), Pat Decker (1g-1a), Phil Schmid
(2g), and Steve Difulvio (2a). The Rangers
improve to (6-4).
Scoring for the Spartans were Chas Giehl
3g, Andy Hilton (2g), Pat Lynah (1g-1a),
Tom Elkins 1g while Andy McEntee and Tom
Sudek each added an assist. Dave Bellavia
had 8 saves for Gates Chili (4-6).
In
a penalty filled game, Webster Schroeder
won a close 10-7 game with Pittsford who
held a 7-6 lead at the end of the third
quarter. The Warriors had four goals in
the last eight minutes of the game.
Jay Wilmes scored the game winner with five
minutes left in the game. Ferry and
close defenseman Drew Palmer closed out
the scoring. Wilmes who was filling in for
the injured John Pawluk and Chris Topping
won 12 of 20 face offs.
Both Webster's Dennis Costanza (14 saves)
and Chris Jacobs (16 saves) made spectacular
saves in the second half.
Scoring for the Warriors were Grant Catalino
(2g-2a), Chris Ferry (2g-1a), Nick Mooney
(1g-1a) and Mike Tota (1g-1a) while Andy
Winslow, Austin Orsini, Jay Wilmes 1g and
Drew Palmer each added one goal and Chris
Topping added one assist for Schroeder (8-2).
Scoring for Pittsford were Doug Milano-Johnson
and Chris Kist with 3g each and Matt Scherer
with one goal.
In
a GRALL game tonight, Aquinas
was victorious over Livonia with a score
of 8-3 in the game at Aquinas tonight. The
hard fought game saw the Little Irish with
a 3-2 half time lead, but they took control
in the second half with a great defensive
effort led by goalie Alan Antiarelli who
ended the night with a total of 18 saves
and close senior defenseman Carroll Kennedy,
and Joe Edd.
Scoring for Aquinas were David Schmandt
(4g), Nick Vincent (2g), Mark Pincelli (1g
-1a), Pat King (4a), Matt Smith (1g-1a),
and Nick Berkompas (1a).
Scoring for Livonia
were Chadd Britton (2g) and John Dalberth
(1g).
In
the other GRALL game tonight, it was McQuaid Jesuit
14-5 over Bath at McQuaid Jesuit.
The Knights scored
the first two goals of the night, which
were both unassisted. They were scored at
4:32, by Sean Conroy, and at 3:08, by Evan
Gallina. Bath retaliated with a fast break
goal with 0:30 left in the first quarter
with an unassisted goal by Brad Fuerst (who
scored all but one of the remaining goals
for Bath).
Rams goalie, Jeremiah Wilder made 15 saves
in the first quarter and ended the night
with a total of 25 saves (65.8%), which
tied the school record. The quarter ended
with McQuaid Jesuit up 2-1.
Bath did not score again until the
fourth quarter. The Knights scored six goals
in the second quarter and three more in
the third. The first goal in the series
was scored by Jeff MacDonald (assisted by
Gino D’Angelo). A clear by Alex Caton
resulted in the second goal (unassisted).
The third was scored by Mitch Ritchie and
the fourth by MacDonald again, both unassisted.
The next goal was assisted by Andrew Foster
and scored by Dan Sturnick. The next two
goals, which were the last of the second
and the first of the third, were both unassisted
goals by Ritchie. Tom Carpenter scored the
next goal (unassisted) and MacDonald added
his third of the night for the last goal
of the third quarter (assisted by Ritchie).
The third ended with the score 11-1 in favor
of the Knights.
Bath scored the first goal of the fourth
quarter at 10:00 (Zac Conrad unassisted).
The second goal of the final quarter was
also scored by the Rams. Fuerst scored his
first of three in the last quarter. This
goal was scored at 9:36, and assisted by
Collin Muller. The Knights came back at
8:43 with Conroy’s second goal and
Foster’s second assist of the night.
The Rams fourth goal came at 7:00 with the
assist to Conrad and the goal to Fuerst
McQuaid Jesuit score two more goals at 4:31 and
2:03. The first was scored by Nick Caton
and assisted by Ritchie, and the second
was scored by Tom D’Antonio and assisted
by MacDonald. The final goal of the night
was scored by Fuerst for the Rams and was
again assisted by Conrad.
Scoring for McQuaid Jesuit
were Ritchie (3g-2a), MacDonald (3g-1a),
Conroy (2g), Foster (2a), Gallina (1g),
Alex Caton (1g), Nick Caton (1g), Sturnick
(1g), Carpenter (1g), D’Antonio (1g),
and D’Angelo (1a). Patrick Maguire
played the first quarter and Dan Caufield
played the remainder of the game. Caufield
made 2 saves. The Knights now improve to
6-7.
Scoring for Bath were Fuerst (4g),
Conrad (1g-2a), and Muller (1a). Jeremiah
Wilder played all four quarters for the
Rams and accumulated 25 saves.
Brighton was the 12-7 winner over Eastridge
a game last night at Eastridge.
Brighton came out and took a 5-0 first quarter
lead but The Lancers came back in the second
quarter with five goals to send the game
into the half time break with The Barons
up 6 - 5. Brighton scored the next four
goals to take a 10
- 6 third quarter lead and the game finished
with Brighton ahead 12 -7. Robbie
Asselin led the Barons with a goal and six
assists. Colin Davis finished with four
goals and an assist. Colin Hickey added
three goals and an assist. Ryan Conti had
a goal and an assist and Evan Davis, Kyle
Warren, and Tim Williams each had a goal
for Brighton. No
report from Eastridge.
Penfield
was the eventual winner with a score of
19-5 over host Rush-Henrietta.
Tony Henriquez opened the scoring for Rush-Henrietta
with a man up goal and Justin Rose also
added a goal but at the end of the first
period visiting Penfield was up 4-2. Penfield’s
fifth goal was scored by Dave Malone with
an assist from Connor Rice which was quickly
answered by RH’s third goal scored
by Nate Dalone keeping the Royal Comets
within two at the 9:06 mark of second quarter.
Penfield broke the game open with the next
five goals to lead 10-3 at half and 16-4
at the end of the three quarters.
Penfield was once again lead by Kelly McKenna
who scored 4 goals and added 2 assists while
winning 12 of 16 face offs. Leading the
scoring for the Patriots was Connor Rice
with 3g-5a. Other players scoring multiple
points were Mike Arvan 3g, Dave Malone 2g-1a,
Ben Foster 2g and Alex Smith 1g-2a. Kevin
Green , Mike Cummins, Kyle Denhoff and Dan
Huntington each added a goal while Mark
Hill contributed 1 assist. In the goal Brian
Dell had seven saves and allowed 3 goals
and in the second half Ryan Nicoletta made
2 saves and allowed 2 goals. Penfields record
improves to 9-1.
Scoring for Rush-Henrietta were Henrigquez
(2g) Matt Moran (1g-1a), Rose (1g), Dalone
(1g) and Tim Barth (1a). Matt McShea made
10saves and Andrew Widanka added 3 saves
for the Royal Comets (7-4).
Webster
Thomas was the overtime
winner as Kevin Kemp scored an unassisted
goal just 0:27 seconds into overtime for
the win over host HFL.
This was a terrific lacrosse game in which
there was a seven goal swing and a lots
of emotion left on the field. Cade Noris
scored the first two goals of the game for
the Cougars. Both were scored in unsettled
situations created by excellent riding from
HFL. The Cougars scored again when Dan Layfield
isolated the Thomas middie from up up top.
The fourth goal for HFL came from Connor
Burgasser. Thomas scored their first goal
when Brendan Rothfuss scored on an assist
from Brandon Reeners. Layfield scored another
unassisted goal to end the first quarter
with just 0:04 seconds in the quarter which
ended with the Cougars up 5-1.
Burgasser scored at the start of the second
quarter. Thomas scored the last two goals
of the quarter, the first by Kevin Kemp
and the second from Dom Scalzo assisted
by Kurt Detwiller. The score at the end
of the half was 6-3.
At the beginning of the third quarter The
Cougars went on a three goal run with the
first just 0:36 into the quarter and the
next two goals from Layfield (unassisted).
With HFL up 9-3 with 8:00 minutes remaining
in the third quarter The Titans made a switch
at the goalie position that seemed to spark
a turn around.
Scoring for the Titans was Dom Scalzo on
an assist from Max Gurowski at 6:38. Scalzo
scored again (unassisted) at 5:37 to make
the score 9-5. Then sophomore attackmen
Max Gurowski scored a goal with an assist
from Scalzo with 4 minutes left to end the
scoring with the Cougars up 9-6.
HFL had a stick penalty at the top of the
last quarter that gave Thomas a 3 minute
man up to start the quarter but the HFL
man down unit held the Titans scoreless.
Thomas goalie Steven Hondorf came up with
some dramatic saves and clears in the fourth
quarter.The Thomas defense of Ryan McGrath,
Jake Ziegler and James Frommert didn’t
allow any goals for the final twenty minutes
of the game. Also playing well were short
stick defensive middies Jordan Tracey, Peter
Hart, Remington Fox, along with Long Stick
Midfielder Taylor Smith and Freshmen AJ
Glagolov.
Rothfuss scored the seventh goal of the
game for the Titans with 5:19 left (assisted
by Max Gurowski). Rothfuss scored next on
a pass from Kurt Detwiller after he intercepted
a pass during the ride. The tying goal was
scored in a man up situation by Scalzo on
a great feed from Gurowski with just 0:39
seconds left in regulation.
The Game then went into overtime and Pat
Maloney came up with a big face off for
the Titans who then called a time out and
with just 0:27 seconds into overtime, Kevin
Kemp scored an unassisted goal to win the
game for the Titans.
Fairport
was the 9-3 winner over host Irondequoit
as Pat Reilly led the scoring with 3g. Shawn
Runyon and Jeff Sanna each added 2g and
Mike Danylyshyn added (1-2) while Ryan Lowe
added one goal. Dan Scarazzo recorded 2a
and Eric martin added 1a. Geoff Mayor made
19 saves for the Red Raiders (9-2).
The game was closely played during the first
half before Fairport pulled away. Particularly
noteworthy was the play of Irondequoit's
Mickey Haight who won 11 out of 12 faceoffs.
Scoring for the Eagles were Kevin Coholan
(2g), Mickey Haight (1g) while Derek Pino
added two assists for Irondequoit (6-4).
After
falling behind Brockport 4-2 at half time,
Churchville-Chili stormed
back to a 10-9 victory. Leading the way
for the Saints were, Ben Rossignolo (3g,
2a), Ryan Grogan (2g, 1a). Adding to their
scoring were Gino Marcello (1g,1a), Jaime
Englert , Doug Hemink, Mitch Mertel, and
Cory Mee with 1goal each, and Brian Traugott
(1a). Leading the defense were Shane Melvin
(6GB) and goalie Evan Williams (7 saves).
