Saturday: Waterloo Day |
April 8, 2006 - Seven games were scheduled
for Saturday and four of them were planned
for the new turf field at Waterloo High
School. Many games seemed to fall as expected.
In
a game not played at Waterloo, Webster Thomas
was the 9-3 winner at host Brockport.
The Titans started quickly, scoring first
with a goal by senior midfielder Kurt DetWiller
assisted by Brendon Rothfuss who finished
with 1g-2a. Scoring the next goal (unassisted)
was senior midfielder Brandon Reeners. The
Titans had a number of good looks but the
Brockport defense wouldn't break. Brockport’s
goalie, Connor Mykins played an excellent
first half making 12 saves and ending the
game with 19. DetWiller scored again (unassisted)
followed by Kevin Kemp (3 g-1a). Scoring
for Brockport in the first quarter was midfielder
Bohdan Klymochko scoring on a strong dodge
from up top.
In the second quarter neither team could
find the net as the play became very physical
for both sides and each team had their opportunities
but neither were able to take advantage
of them. Thomas led at the break 4-1.
Thomas maintained control in the third quarter.
Sophomore attackmen Max Gurowski scored
first for the Titans with an assisted by
Kevin Kemp. Kemp scored assisted by Rothfuss
and Rothfuss scored assisted by Dan Hinderland.
At the end of the third quarter the score
was Thomas 7 Brockport 1. Thomas Goalie
Steve Hondorf had a solid game in cage allowing
only one goal over three quarters. Also
playing well was the Titan Defense who continued
to put pressure on Brockport all day.
In the fourth quarter Thomas remained on
the offensive with goals by Kemp (assisted
by Max Gurowski) and Kurt DetWiller. Brockport
saw two man up goals by junior midfielder
Sean Bittner. Leading the defense for Brockport
was junior defensive midfielder Tucker English
who had 9 ground balls.
The Titan Defense played well all day. Sophomore
face off man Pat Maloney was 10/14 for Thomas.
Kurt DetWiller had 8 ground balls for the
Titans. No report

The
Livonia Bulldogs hosted
the Eastridge Lancers in a match up on Saunders
Field with the temperature in the 20’s.
The bright sunshine did little to warm the
chilly athletes, coaches and fans but they
warmed up as the Bulldogs won their 6th
straight game this season with a 16 -6 victory.
After a slow start, junior middie Adam
Schaible scored an unassisted goal for Livonia
with 2 minutes left in the first quarter.
Eastridge’s Alex Austin scored on
an assist from Sean Sawyer tie the score
and then Brian Sciera scored the first of
his eight in the game with 40 seconds left
in the half. Tyler Russell recorded the
assist that put Livonia ahead 2–1
at the end of the first quarter.
Eastridge tied the score early in the second
quarter on another goal by Austin, and then
went ahead 3 – 2 on a goal by Sean
Sawyer. Livonia then scored five unanswered
goals to take a 7-3 half time lead. Senior
attackman John Dalberth started with an
unassisted goal. Luke Merritt scored on
an assist from Brian Sciera. Sciera then
scored the last three goals of the quarter
himself with Chadd Britton and Oren Taylor
assisting.
After the break, the Bulldogs scored nine
second half goals including four from Sciera
and two from Dalberth. Chadd Britton scored
in man up, Merritt’s second goal and
senior co-captain Brent Simpson's goal topped
off the scoring.
Scoring for Livonia were Sciera (8g-1a),
Dalberth (3g-1a), Britton (1g-2a),
Merritt (2g), Mosher (2a), Russell (2a),
Schaible (1g), Simpson (1g) and Taylor (1a).
Seniors Aaron Jamison (6s) and Zac Berger
(3s) split time in the goal for the Bulldogs.
Scoring for Eastridge were Austin (2g-1a),
Sawyer (1g-1a), Todd Horne (1g-1a),
R.J. Pixley (1g) and Nathan Wirth (1g).
Sophomore goalie Eugene Ferrera recorded
14 saves for the Lancers.

It
was Newark over Midlakes,
6-3 in the 1:30 game at Waterloo. The first
quarter ended with Midlakes up 2-0 after
Newark committed five penalties. Midlakes
senior midfielder Nate Stevens scored the
first goal (unassisted) and Ryan McConnon
added the second goal just 46 seconds later
with an assist from Jon Briggs.
Ball time in the second quarter belonged
to Newark as they out shot Midlakes 17 to
4 but only had one, unassisted goal from
Alex Quku after winning his own face-off
win at the start of the quarter.
The third quarter saw Newark tie the game
on a shot by Nate Johnson assisted by Colin
Johnson on man-up.
In the fourth, Newark pulled ahead on a
Dan Mizro goal from Colin Johnson.
Scoring for Newark were Nate Johnson (2a),
Colin Johnson (2g-1a), Dan Mizro (2g), Quku
(1g-1a), John Barrett (1g). Senior goalie
Anthony Cole recorded 11 saves for the Reds
(2-2).
Scoring for Midlakes were Jon Briggs (1a),
Ryan McConnon (1g) and Stephens (2g-1a).
Sophomore goalie Jared Schoonerman made
18 saves for the Eagles (2-3).
It
was Penn Yan over Victor
in the 8:00 am game at Waterloo with a score
of 10-2. The Mustangs took a 3-0 first quarter
lead and ended the half up 7-2.
Scoring for Penn Yan were Dan McGuffie (3g-1a),
Dan Mesler (2g-1a), Matt Osgood (1g), Ben
Odell (1g-2a) and Chris Carlson (1g). Junior
goalie RJ Wickham made 11 saves for the
Mustangs (3-1).
Scoring for Victor were Erick Rogemoser
(2g) and Alex Rogemoser (1a). junior goalie
Mitchell Liegerot made ten saves for the
Blue Devils (2-3).
Outstanding
defensive performances were turned in by
Alan Zulick, Jon Zacharias, Ben Knapton,
Justin Buck, Evan Roth, and Charlie Sauter
as Canandaigua beat Geneva,
5-2 in the 11:15 game at Waterloo.
Scoring for the Braves were Connor Henderson
(1g-1a), Jordan Manzer (1g-1a), Eric Klein
(1g), Austin Rogers (1g), Andrew Knoblauch
(1g) and AJ Groot, Chris McWilliams and
Alan Zulick who each added 1 assist. Senior
goalie Dan Serafine recorded seven saves,
several at critical moments.
Scoring for Geneva were Andy Tourella and
John Warner. Playing in the goal for Geneva
was junior Adam Schutz who made 6 saves.

Waterloo
took a 4-1 first quarter lead on their way
to a 12-6 win over visiting Pal-Mac in the
last game of the four at Waterloo. The Indians
led 8-4 at the half and 10-4 at the end
of three.
Scoring for Waterloo were Winston Boyd (4g-4a),
Nelson Boyd (4g-2a). Bill Jolly (2g-2a)
and Josh Mateo (2g-1a). Senior defenseman
Josh Lewis had an outstanding defensive
game for the Indians. Senior Andy Riegel
had 9 saves and fellow senior Mark Nearpass
had 2 saves for Waterloo (4-1).
Scoring for Pal-Mac were Derrick Piccola
(2a) and Jeremy Norsen (1g-1a). Mike Christ,
Cody Clement, Pete Barry, Dave Merritt and
Ryan Buckley each scored a goal and Jaimie
Gross added an assist. Junior goalie Jon
Reeves recorded 32 saves, including a number
at point blank range.
Onondaga
(Section 3) took a 5-1 first quarter lead
and was 9-4 at the half on their way to
a 14-6 victory over vi sting Mynderse Academy.
The Blue Devils got as close as 9-6 at 6:41
in the third quarter by Onondaga finished
with five goals for the win.
Scoring for Tigers were Craig Burlin (1g-1a),
Evan Miles (3g-2a), Nick Gilbert (4g-1a),
Jim Runge (2g-1a), Brandon Rotunno (3g-1a),
Jim Barry (1g). Tigers' goalie Matt Krupka
recorded 10 saves for Onondaga (4-1).
Scoring for Mynderse were Sean McGrimley
(2g-2a), Eric Davids (1g), Josh Kurdziolek
(1a), Craig Smith (1g), Dustin Luckinbill
(1g), Kevin McCully (1g). Zac Rescorl made
15 saves for Mynderse (1-2).
