Monday: Last Day (Almost) |
May 16, 2005 - Pittsford beat R-H today and will host Thomas on Tuesday,
but the rest of the teams in Section Five are now finished
with the regular season. Penfield dodged the bullet again
today with a one goal win at Fairport and completed their
regular season undefeated. Canandaigua finished with a

this season.
Like many great lacrosse games, the Penfield
victory over Fairport was dominated by great defense
by both teams starting with the goalies. As good as Fairport's
Geoff Mayor was, Penfield's Brian Dell was even better,
making almost uncountable point blank saves at dramatic
times. His efforts were more appreciated as his defensive
unit protecting him keep the Raider shooters outside for
most of the game and kept their best dodgers from getting
many shots. Luke Prattico and John Butt had a number of
key take aways and Evander Wilson added a number of key
clears.
Penfield scored the lone goal in the first quarter when

a crossing pass from Chris Lindner at 2:46. Penfield came
right back with a drive from behind the cage resulting
in an unassisted goal by Jason Knerr at 2:07. The half
ended with Penfield up 3-1.
The Patriots started in man up in the third on a carry
over penalty and made good use of it, scoring at 11:50
(Mike Thon from Rice). A goal at 9:16 by Rice (assisted
by Knerr) would be the last goal of the game by Penfield.
The Raiders finished the
quarter on a high note scoring in man up at 1:53 when
Ryan Lowe scored (unassisted). The quarter ended with
the Patriots up 5-2.
Dramatic defense was the name of the game in the last
quarter as the goalies and their defensemen kept the ball
out of the net for more than eight minutes. The Red Raiders
brought their fans to their feet at 3:45 when Mike Danylyshyn
scored on a pass from Pat Reilly to bring Fairport within
two. Penfield won the face off but lost the ball resulting
in an unassisted goal by Lowe at 1:07 to bring the score
to 5-4. Although Fairport was able to get eventually get
the ball to their offensive end, a last second shot went
off the pipe and Penfield finished their perfect record
season.
