April 26, 2005 - Bath and Thomas were winners on Monday in the only two
games played in the section.

Thomas beat the Churchville Chili Saints
by a score of 6-4 on Monday afternoon in Churchville.
Six different Titans scored in the game. Junior midfielder
Kurt DetWiller started the game with an unassisted goal
in the first quarter. Freshman attackman Max Gurowski
added the Titans' second goal of the day to make it 2-0.
Churchville then struck back with a goal by sophomore
middie Jaime Englert. The quarter ended with a 2-1 Titan
lead.
The second quarter belonged to Thomas with goals by junior
attackman Kevin Kemp and sophomore middie Pete Hart scored
his first varsity goal. The Titans defense played together
to hold the Saints scoreless for the quarter and were
led by junior goalie Steve Hondorf with 6 saves. Senior
defenseman Mark Schuber led the Titans with 6 ground balls
and senior defenseman Matt Kemp played a strong game for
the Titans. The score at the end of the half was Titans
4 and Saints 1.
In the second half both teams settled down and played
a tight game. Titan sophomore attackman Brendon Rothfuss
scored to take the score to 5-2. Churchville-Chili came
back with two goals both, by senior middie Brad Gurbacki
to close within one goal. Sophomore attackman Dom Scalzo
scored what would be the final goal of the game for both
teams to make the final score 6-4.
Sophomore goalie Alex Mosher helped close out the Titans
victory with 5 strong saves in the second half. Thomas
advances to 3-5.
Scoring for C-C were Gurbacki (2g-1a), Englert (1g), Ben
Rossignolo (1g), Cory Mee (1a), Devon Jessop (1a). Churchville's
defense, consisting of Rich Amundson, Doug Hemink, Brett
Hallenbeck and Shawn Pierce combined for 19 ground balls.
Junior goalie Evan Williams had 5 saves at goal for the
Saints (3-4).
Bath
outscored Newark 7-4 in the first quarter and finished
the game with a 13-8 win at Newark. Scoring for the Rams
were senior attackmen Ryan Finney (5g-1a) and Liam Glover
(2g 3a). Junior attackman Zac Conrad (2g), and senior
middies Richie Zajac (2g 2a) and Jeremy Sutfin(1g 2a)
added to the Bath score along with freshman midfielder
McKenzie Durham (1g). Junior goalie Jeremiah Wilder had
12 saves in the goal for Bath (2-5).
Newark's scoring came from senior attackmen Dan Mizro
(3g) and Jason Johnson (1g) and from junior attackman
Nate Johnson (1g). Junior goalie Anthony Cole recorded
17 saves for Newark (2-8). |
