Wednesday: Two One Goal Wins - Higher Seeds Win

Although the seeding for the Class B and Class C held through the quarterfinals, there were two exciting games. Gananda was an 11-10 winner over Pal-Mac and Churchville-Chili was a 13-12 winner over Brighton. The rest of the winners were Canandaigua, Pen Yan, Wayne, Aquinas, Thomas and Irondequoit.

Next up are the semifinal rounds. In Class A Pittsford will play Penfield (7:00) and Victor will play Schroeder (5:00) on Friday at Webster Thomas. On Saturday, in Class B, Churchville-Chili will play Canandaigua (11:00 am) and Thomas will play Irondequoit (1:30) at Fairport High School. In Class C Penn Yan will play Gananda (11:00) and Wayne will play Aquinas (1:30) at Waterloo High School.

--  SPORTSFIVE REPORT: Churchville-Chili continued their undefeated season with a 13-12 win over Brighton. The Saints took the lead late in the second although Brighton kept the game close, for the second half. Brighton held the lead twice (late first and early second quarter). Churchville-Chili scored the first three with goals from Corey Yunker, Ryan Mead and Jason Tebo. Tebo scored 4g in the game, including his 100th career goal. Brighton scored their first goal with 5:59 remaining when Brett Randall scored the first of his 5g-2a. The Saints added their fourth, with Jacob Buck scoring off a feed from Yunker.

Brighton finished out the quarter with four unanswered goals to take the first of their two leads. All four goals were scored in the final 2:30 and all four were assisted. Max Coke, Shea McDonald and Brady McDermott (2) scored the goals with Owen Ronchetti, Randall (2) and Noah Shinaman assisting. McDermott's final goal to take the 5-4 lead was scored with 0:03 left in the half.

Churchville-Chili tied the game with the first goal of the second half (Buck unassisted). Two minutes later, Randall scored his second to give the Barons another lead. The Saints responded with four of the next five to take a 9-7 lead. They never trailed again. The Barons kept the game close and tied the score at 7-7 and 9-9. In the fourth quarter, Churchville-Chili went up by two and attempted to run out the clock. With 0:24 remaining, Brighton forced a turnover and scored on the fast-break to bring the score to within one. They won the ensuing face-off and got a shot off with 0:05 remaining. The shot went wide and Churchville-Chili backed up the cage to get the ball back and deny the Barons another shot.

The game was strong defensively with both goalies coming up big when it mattered. Matt Cobb finished at 57% for the Saints with 16 recorded saves. Caleb Green recorded 12 saves, but had a number of important saves to keep Brighton in the game.

--  SPORTSFIVE REPORT: Gananda took an early 3-0 lead on their way to an 11-10 victory over Pal-Mac. Although the Blue Panthers held a 3 goals lead twice in the first half (3-0 and 5-2) the game was tied at 5-5 at the half. In the second half the score was tied each step of the way with both teams taking turns leading.

Coming out of a 5-5 halftime, Dylan Joy scored (unassisted) to put the Panthers back on top. One minute later, James Blazey scored for the Red Raiders for another tie. The game continued on for another two minutes before Pal-Mac took their first lead of the game. Kasey Gallina scored with a feed from Joe Lyko with 7:22 remaining in the third quarter. They held on for five minutes before Gananda tied the game with another goal from Joy (assisted by Remmy Glod). Glod finished 13/22 at the draw and with a team leading nine ground balls. Joy added another eight ground balls for Gananda. Pal-Mac scored the final goal of the quarter with AJ Hems scoring unassisted. They held an 8-7 lead after 36 minutes.

Glod scored an unassisted goal only 0:24 into the final quarter to tie the game for the fourth time. The Red Raiders took the lead again at 8:34 with Lyko scoring unassisted. This time they only held the lead for 0:06. Joe Fisher scored with a feed from Ryan Finnegan. Gananda went back on top with another quick goal only 0:29 later. Kyle Lombardozzi scored his second and third goals to finish out the game (both unassisted). The final Pal-Mac goal was scored by Hems.

In the cage for Pal-Mac, Jared Hurlbutt finished at 50% with 11 saves. Jake Root also recorded 11saves (52%) for the Blue Panthers.
