-- Sophomore midfielder Garrett Ruff scored the final four goals for HF-L to give them a 9=8 victory and their first win over Irondequoit in program history. The Eagles led for nearly the entire game before Ruff brought them on top with 7:53 remaining in the game. Although both teams had chances in the final minutes, the Cougars were able to hold off any additional scoring for Irondequoit.
The game began with four unanswered goals from Irondequoit. Jack Brennan, Daniel Doktor, Derek Olney and Nick Slattery (assisted by Doktor) scored the first four goals of the contest to lead 4-0 going into the second quarter. HF-L scored the first two goals of the second quarter to keep the game close, but the Eagles added two more before halftime to keep the four goal lead (6-2).
To start the second half, the Eagles switched goal tenders. Carter Whittemore came in to start the second half and HF-L scored three goals in 1:23 to make the contest a one goal game. With 6:12 remaining in the third quarter, Irondequoit led 6-5. Doktor scored his second goal to put them back up by two, but then Ruff started his four goal scoring streak with 2:55 left in the third quarter. The final Irondequoit goal was scored by Phil Barilla as time wound down at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, it was all HF-L. Ruff added three more goals at 11:30, 10:30 and 7:53 while the Eagles were held scoreless. Starting Irondequoit goalie Max Eismann returned to the game after the score was tied at 10:30. However, Ruff's goal and a lack of offensive scoring by the Eagles kept the Cougars on top. Eismann finished with 6 saves (60%) and Whittemore finished with 7 saves (58%).
